Prestigious Ergo Cup Competition Highlights IIE’s Applied Ergonomics Conference

Twenty companies will compete for the prestigious ERGO Cup for innovative ergonomic improvements to processes at the 9th Annual Applied Ergonomics Conference presented by the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). Conference includes educational sessions, speakers, tours and exhibits.

Norcross, GA (PRWEB) February 11, 2006 -- Twenty companies will compete for the prestigious ERGO Cup for innovative ergonomic improvements to processes at the 9th Annual Applied Ergonomics Conference in Orlando, Florida, March 6 through 9 presented by the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). Participants, plus a panel of judges, select the winners in three categories – Ergonomics Training, Team-driven Workplace Solutions and Ergonomist/Engineer-driven Workplace Solutions.

The Ergo Cup competition is presented by IIE and sponsored by the Ergonomics Center of North Carolina. Entries are judged on how innovative the solution is, how impactful the solution is on both ergonomic risk and financial returns and how well the team conveys its message. Winners of Ergo Cups in 2005 were Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC, General Electric Company and SAS.

A special registration rate is still available for this jam-packed conference. Participate in over 90 tracked educational sessions of leaders sharing real world, on-the-job, this-worked-for-us experiences. Over 800 people are expected to attend this year’s conference, which appeals to professionals in ergonomics, healthcare, safety and engineering. Keynote speakers are Stover H. Snook, Ph.D., CPE, Visiting Scientist in the Dept. of Environmental Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, and is one of the nation’s leading experts on back pain, a critical health concern that costs employees about $100 billion annually and Joel R. Bender, Ph.D., M.D., Corporate Medical Director General Motors. The conference also features benchmarking sessions, networking, cutting edge exhibitors, plant tours, pre-conferences and two free NIOSH- and OSHA-sponsored post-conference workshops. Humantech, The Ergonomics Center of North Carolina and Auburn Engineers are also major sponsors for this annual gathering.

Finalists for the 2006 Ergo Cup competition include Boeing (Oregon and Washington plants), Dell, Ford Motor Company, GE (Mexico and France), Harley Davidson, Honda (2 Ohio plants, Canada, and South Carolina), Johnson & Johnson (Argentina, France & England), PPG, Sunrise Medical Inc., Toyota, GE Consumer & Industrial and SAS.

“This is the premier applied ergonomics conference of the year and its growth is attributable to the practical information our attendees can take back to their companies”, according to Tim McGlothlin, Conference Chair. “What makes this conference special is the high quality applications developed by expert practitioners for practitioners.”
