ISSA is Proud to Support the 2006 Winter Olympics

Through their professors, the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) has worked with thousands of athletes worldwide. Today, the ISSA is proud to support the XX Olympic Winter Games and the commitment to excellence in health, fitness and sports performance that they promote.

Carpinteria, CA (PRWEB) February 10, 2006 -- The Olympic Winter Games, held in Torino, will commence this Friday February 10, 2006 with the Opening Ceremony led by Italy’s President Ciampi. In this 20th year of the Winter Olympics, people around the globe will once again be witness to the amazing athletic prowess of some of the most incredible competitors that the world has produced. The International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) stands strongly behind the Winter Games and the commitment to excellence in health, fitness and sports performance that they promote.

The United States is sending an all-around athletically gifted team of 205 competitors to the 2006 Torino Games. In everything from figure skating to speed skating, alpine skiing to freestyle skiing, snowboarding to bobsled, ice hockey to short track, this year’s US team definitely has the potential to prevail at the podium.

Through their professors, the ISSA has worked with thousands of athletes worldwide -- many of whom have gone on to impressive careers. One such long standing professor is John Schaeffer, who has taught over 100 certification classes for Certified Fitness Trainers within the last 12 years. With over 30 years’ experience in the health and fitness industry, specializing in nutrition, weight management, and sports conditioning, Schaeffer is known as a trainer’s trainer.

John Schaffer is personal trainer to one of this year’s American hopefuls, Apolo Ohno (23), who took home both a silver and gold medal in the 2002 Salt Lake Games, was the 2004-05 overall World Cup champion, and has been the reigning U.S. short track speed skating champion since 2001.

Through a literal minute-by-minute regimented training program, Ohno, working with Schaefer, has been able to successfully prepare for his events in the Short Track. On track for the gold, "Ohno has prepared his mind and body for the gold through carefully monitored nutrition and a periodization program, resulting in practice times we are all excited about," reports Mr. Schaeffer.

“How, in such a short time, did Ohno master a sport so physically demanding and deceptively complex? The people closest to his career -- his father Yuki; his personal trainer, John Schaeffer; one of his primary coaches in recent years, Derrick Campbell; and his fellow competitors -- provide the answers” at www.nbcolympics.com/apoloantonohno/
