Can You Tell Me How To Get ... My Child To Love Reading?

Make It About Me! Unites with Sesame Workshop To Promote Childhood Literacy In A Personal, Customized Way

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 10, 2006 -- We’ve all heard adults describe a great novel as being a “page turner,” but can you imagine hearing a preschooler say that about a new picture book? It would be every parent’s dream to have their child love a book so much that they read it again and again. It would not only help to instill a lifelong love of reading, but it would help them develop their imaginations and become good students. It would also bring them hours and hours of joy. No small task, but certainly one that Make It About Me! is happy to have not only taken on, but to have accomplished.

It all begins on the cover of their new photo-personalized storybook, “________’s Adventure On Sesame Street.” The blank is filled in with the child’s name. And the hardcover book not only has that child’s name printed on every page, but photos of them are seamlessly integrated into the story’s action, featuring the actual places on Sesame Street children know and love. The child literally becomes a part of the adventure. As you can imagine, kids are thrilled when they see themselves not only interacting with their favorite Sesame Street characters, but on the covers of cereal boxes and magazines that are tucked into the story.

The creators have incorporated this brilliant technology into a wonderful, “page turner” story. The story opens with the recipient child receiving a personal message from Grover saying that the first letter of his or her name is the Letter of the Day. But Grover is alarmed because the letter is missing and the Sesame Street crew needs the child’s help, since he or she is such an expert on this letter, to find it before the Letter of the Day Parade begins. The child and Elmo then ride tricycles to Sesame Street and, together with the entire Sesame Street gang, conduct a fun and educational hunt for the letter. Twists and turns in the story make it suspenseful and whimsical.

Scott Chambers, Vice President of Publishing, Home Video and Audio at Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, indicated the customized books fit perfectly into his company’s strategy of adding innovative ways of reaching its target audience. “We think this will be a wonderful way to engage children in reading, and we’re sure our audience will delight in seeing themselves with their favorite Sesame Street friends,” Chambers said in announcing the agreement.

“We are excited that a company with the depth, grounding and strong educational commitment as Sesame Workshop would choose to partner with us to bring these personalized books to children,” said Make It About Me!’s Michael Anthony. “Our books support the Sesame Workshop educational curriculum by presenting the child in activities that promote literacy, numeric and cognitive skills development.”

The books can be ordered via Make It About Me!’s website, www.makeitaboutme.com, at which a customer enters information about the child and uploads or mails in a photo. The book, which is personalized on every page, the cover, spine and back cover is shipped in 10 business days. The first Sesame Street storybook is available now and priced at $29.95.

Continues Anthony, “We believe that personalization not only enhances the appearance of our books, but also serves to motivate and stimulate readers to explore their environment. By involving the child directly in the action, key skills and various activities are introduced in a meaningful way. Of course, the books are fun too!”
