International Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum® Rallies the World for 1 Million Supporters to Join Club 52

Trustees of the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame® aim to build a state-of-the-art museum, which will serve as a permanent home for gospel music in Detroit to immortalize the life and work of gospel music legends. Board members want to build a museum befitting the treasured place that gospel music holds in American culture.

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) February 16, 2006 -- The International Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum® Executive Board of Directors is pleased to announce the launch of Club 52 (www.club52.org) and year two of a capital campaign designed to raise money for a permanent museum in Detroit. The board invites more than just gospel music enthusiasts to take part in seeing the steady progress through to completion.

“Given the key role gospel music has played in American culture, we feel this project is going to be something the entire world can get behind,” said David Gough, museum founder and president.

Given the key role gospel music has played in American culture, we feel this project is going to be something the entire world can get behind
The museum (http://www.igmhf.org/website/html_pages/home_page.html#) was founded in 1995 and is currently part of DoRohn Entertainment's studio. But, with memorabilia associated with more than 100 honorees, the hall is bursting at the seams and needs a new home. Given gospel music's key role and the passion, talent and commitment of gospel artists, a new museum deserves to be built. With this devotion to gospel music in mind, Club 52 (www.club52.org) was created to encourage the public to support the project at minimal cost while still feeling intimately involved in the evolution and construction of the hall of fame.

Last year, the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame® started an online petition drive aimed at getting a permanent, free-standing home for the treasure trove. The drive netted more than 4,000 signatures and led to a successful beginning to a capital campaign last year.

Now Gough and his board are set to reinvigorate their efforts with new donors and new plans.

Visitors, friends, supporters and lovers of gospel music as well as patrons of American popular culture can sign up to be a Club 52 partner, giving $1 each week toward the effort to preserve gospel music history. Club 52 members directly contribute to building a permanent home to immortalize the life and work of gospel music pioneers. For more information, visit www.club52.org.

“Given the rich history and tradition of gospel music, binding generations and giving voice to the deepest longings in American culture, building the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum® is a project everyone can support,” Gough said.

Currently, one can visit the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum® by appointment only. Call 313.592.0017 and set up a time to see the exhibits, hear the music and even try their hand at recording a classic song in the DoRohn recording studio.
