Prominent Attorney Faces Jail Time

In Civil Action No 00-0038-S Judge Sarah Springer issued an order to appear to be arrested for Ms Karen Spencer of the prestigious law firm Spencer & Spencer in Jackson Ms and her client. Ms. Spencer represents the mother’s suit against her ex-husband, a local minister, who has been accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his daughter. Ms. Spencer represents a mother's suit against her ex-husband, a local minister who has been accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his daughter. The child had said, “My daddy hurt me.” Medical reports, counselors notes, Child Protective Services Texas are only a few of the experts who supported the child's accusation. Trial began Feb 03, 2006, in which Ms Spencer, represented by prominent criminal defense attorney, Cynthia H. Speetjeans, was accused of encouraging her client to leave Springer's jurisdiction, and ironically, some of the evidence of the abuse suffered by the child and her little brother was heard by the Court for the first time. The little girl told her counselor at The Collin County Children's Advocacy Center, where her mother had taken her for intensive help, that her "daddy” had had a sexual relationship with her since she "was six." Texas Protective Services conducted an independent investigation and found the biological father guilty of sexually assaulting his daughter. Then the little girl told police, attorneys, two psychologists appointed by Judge Springer, and many others, all of whom agree that the child is telling the truth.

This is one of the worst cases of sexual abuse of a child I have seen... the court seeming to seek to put the children back in the source of the abuse.

During the trial a tape was played by Ms Spencer in which, Mr. Parrish said, "We are going to get that woman (meaning the mother) and we are going to get you (meaning Ms Spencer) if you represent her." This is significant at this time only because at the time Ms Spencer laughed at Parrish and said, "I can't think of anything I'd rather go to jail for than protecting a child from being sexually assaulted."

Judge Springer, in an angry rage, seized custody from this public school teacher mother and handed custody to the biological father. At the same time she issued an order to appear to be arrested for Ms. Spencer and her client. Sanctions were also placed on Ms Spencer. Arguments were heard and are still pending for Ms Spencer to give the court $70,000.00 in attorney fees she has earned in this complex civil case. The $70,000.00 was argued to be divided among the Guardian ad Litem, Edward N. Kramer, 111, and the biological father's attorney, Stewart Parrish with “whatever is left to be used to locate the mother." What was the cause of the judge's rage against the attorney and her client? The mother had refused to allow the biological father 10 days of unsupervised visitation, with weeks of unsupervised visitation scheduled to follow the 10 days.

This climax in this sexual assault case that resulted in the issuing of an order to appear to be arrested and various other very negative orders, against Ms Spencer and her client began July 16, 2004, after an unsupervised weekend visit with the biological father. The mother alerted by a provocative note her daughter had "secretly" written to her, took her to a clinical psychologist who immediately scheduled a physical exam with physician trained in child molestation cases. This physician transferred the child to U.M. Hospital Rape & Crisis Center - Jackson. The little girl had been sexually assaulted and was hurt badly. Who had done this to the little girl and what does that have to do with the order to appear to be arrested of a prominent Jackson attorney? The man, the child has consistently said sexually assaulted her, was awarded custody and the women, who were turning the legal world upside down to defend the child, were issued orders to appear to be arrested among other very negative orders in Judge Springer’s court.

Texas Family Law attorney, Lisa S. Zahn, Dallas metroplex, expressed her incredulity -- said, "This is one of the worst cases of sexual abuse of a child I have seen... the court seeming to seek to put the children back in the source of the abuse."
