First Trade Association for Job Boards Launches

The International Association of Employment Web Sites has begun operation as the first and only trade association for the Internet’s 40,000+ job boards and career portals. The Association's logo now serves as the “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval” for job seekers and employers visiting online employment sites.

Stamford, CT (PRWEB) March 1, 2006 -- The International Association of Employment Web Sites has begun operation as the first and only trade association for the Internet’s 40,000+ job boards and career portals. Its Web-site is located at http://www.EmploymentWebSites.org.

Just four months old, the Association already boasts a Who’s Who of employment sites among its membership. Participating sites include CareerBuilder.com, Monster.com, Yahoo! HotJobs, The New York Times JobMarket, CareerJournal.com from The Wall Street Journal, Dice, the HealtheCareersNetwork, JobsinLogistics.com, TrueCareers, eFinancialCareers and StepStone in Europe, and JobStreet.com in Asia.

“Job boards are the most important advance in employment since the creation of the resume,” says the Association’s Executive Director, Peter Weddle. “No less important, job boards have been in operation for more than a decade so it’s high time they had their own trade organization.”

Why is this group important to job seekers and employers? Because there is almost no barrier to entry in the online employment services marketplace. Sites can launch from someone’s back bedroom and have the same outward appearance as a site with true capabilities and robust services. Consumers can be short-changed because they find it difficult to tell the difference.

The Association eliminates that problem. It requires its members to adhere to the highest standards of customer service and business standards. When the Association’s logo appears on a site, visitors know they are entering the site of a reputable employment services provider.

Membership in the Association is open to any organization which provides employment services to the workforce at large or to a discrete subset of it. That includes job boards operated by commercial companies, newspapers and other publications, radio stations, college and university alumni organizations, and affinity groups. It does not include Web-sites operated by employers or staffing firms.

The Association’s Web-site provides a list of its members’ Web-sites, a press room of announcements by members, free tips that can help job seekers and employers make better use of job boards, and contact information for both the Association’s staff and its members.
