New Internet Video Portal Goes Live

TurnHere, Inc. is a new Internet video destination site that chronicles neighborhoods and places across the country through short films.

Emeryville, Calif. (PRWEB) March 2, 2006 -- TurnHere's short 2-5 minute films offer an insider's look, portraying the culture, history, local businesses and political landscapes of unique neighborhoods and places. Each film stars the people who live there.

"Through TurnHere, we are capturing and chronicling unique neighborhoods and iconic places across America, and ultimately around the world," said TurnHere Founder Bradley Inman. "Each film highlights the rich, ‘street-level' culture of each neighborhood, and illustrates the immense diversity of life in different regions across the country, making it the ideal tool for travelers interested in getting the ‘inside scoop' on a destination."

best part of Los Angeles.
TurnHere offer free downloads of any film to mobile video devices, such as Apple's video iPod, enabling travelers to take the movies on the road. Viewers also can share videos with friends by e-mailing the URL to any Web-enabled device.

TurnHere has a network of more than 50 filmmakers nationwide and anticipates adding 20 to 50 additional films to its Web site each week. Some current films include Hell's Kitchen in New York, Los Feliz in Los Angeles, Miami's South Beach, Pioneer Square in Seattle, and lesser-known locations like Windsor, Vt., and Ocean City, Calif.

In the three-minute Chris Kenneally/TurnHere film on Hell's Kitchen in New York City, Nilson the sewer artist/musician takes viewers on a personal tour of his favorite neighborhood haunts, including Rudy's Bar and Grill where he poses with the gigantic pig statue, and Show World Central, the reported home of the first 25 cent peep show booth. His tip for out-of-towners: "If you go into a peep show booth, number one, bring lots of quarters, and number two, wear your shoes." In Robert Sobul's film Los Feliz neighborhood in Los Angeles, local writer Jahmin Assa offers a tour of what he considers the "best part of Los Angeles." Formerly known as East Hollywood, Los Feliz today is a hot spot full of restaurants, bookstores, bars and "Yuka's," the best burrito place in L.A. Jahmin highlights the neighborhood's dark past, with a look into local Hollywood lore, including the Griffith Park Conservatory's "Curse." TurnHere invites local businesses to advertise on the site with their own videos made by TurnHere's network of filmmakers, which then will be placed on the page specific to their destination.

"As the Internet shifts toward video, films that are entertaining and informative capture more of users' attention, and lead to sharing of bookmarks and buzz among friends and colleagues," said Dr. Ward Hanson, a fellow and policy forum director of Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, and a member of the TurnHere Advisory Board.

In addition to the film portal, the company is creating the first community for professional Internet filmmakers at TurnHereFilmmakers.com, providing tools, information and networking opportunities for professional filmmakers interested in creating material for the Web.

"Filmmakers are hungry for new and fresh showcases for their work," said TurnHere Filmmaker Kelly Whalen. "TurnHere offers a unique opportunity for filmmakers to be part of an exciting and meaningful large-scale project capturing the essence and spirit of American life."
