University of Dayton to Host Sixth Annual R.I.S.E. Forum

Largest student investment forum will bring together students, professors and industry leaders from around the world

Dayton, OH (PRWEB) March 13, 2006 –- The University of Dayton will host the sixth annual R.I.S.E. (Redefining Investment Strategy Education) Forum from March 30 to April 1, 2006. R.I.S.E. is the first forum of its kind to bring students, faculty, and Wall Street together in an interactive learning environment to discuss a range of issues facing tomorrow’s leaders in the financial services industry.

More than 1,200 participants, including undergraduate and graduate finance students and professors from universities around the world, will join professionals and internationally renowned industry leaders in what is the world's largest student investment conference. The forum is co-sponsored by the most prestigious names in finance: The New York Stock Exchange, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Deutsche Asset Management, NASDAQ, CFA Institute, Singapore Exchange, CBOT, Deutsche Börse Group and the University of Dayton. Last year, a portion of the keynote presentations was broadcast to over 800,000 people in 140 countries through the wire services Dow Jones News, Bloomberg News and Reuters News.

Among the keynote speakers who will be in attendance at the forum, Jim Rogers is just one example of the industry stewards to address students, faculty and business professionals at this year’s R.I.S.E. Forum. Rogers is one of the world’s most acclaimed and successful financial experts, but certainly not the typical expert on Wall Street. He took a two-year bike trip around the world, to learn firsthand about the world’s developing countries and their investment markets. More recently, Rogers embarked – with a one-of-a-kind Mercedes-Benz – on a new adventure to chronicle the world during the turn of the millennium. He brings these journeys to life by offering a ground-level analysis of tomorrow’s economic gold mines today.

"We're providing unprecedented access to a greater number of keynote speakers of this caliber than students and professionals can find anywhere else,'' said David Sauer, associate professor of finance and executive director of the R.I.S.E. Forum.

Similar to last year, the University of Dayton will open part of its internationally recognized conference to professionals who want to learn from others in the field and interact with tomorrow's future business leaders. The cost for the March 30 keynote presentation day at the University of Dayton Arena is $200 and includes a box lunch. The program will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., featuring discussions on the economy, markets, Federal Reserve perspective, corporate governance and public policy. The registration deadline is March 14; there will be no on-site registration permitted. Keynote speakers for the R.I.S.E. Forum include:

  • Richard Bernstein, Chief U.S. Strategist and Chief Quantitative Strategist, Merrill Lynch
  • Steven Chan, Chairman and CEO, Chinadotcom
  • Dr. William C. Dudley, Chief U.S. Economist, Goldman Sachs
  • Dr. Bob Froehlich, Chairman of Investor Strategy Committee, Deutsche Asset Management
  • Elaine Garzarelli, President, Garzarelli Research, Inc.
  • Igor V. Kostikov, former Chairman, Federal Commission on the Securities Market
  • Guillermo Ortiz, Chairman and Governor, Central Bank of Mexico
  • Dr. William Poole, President and CEO, The Federal Bank of St. Louis
  • Timothy Ridley, Chairman, Cayman Islands Monetary Authority
  • Jim Rogers, Adventure Capitalist
  • Douglas Shulman, President of Markets, Services, and Information, NASD
  • Diane C. Swonk, Chief Economist, Mesirow Financial
  • Dr. Edward E. Yardeni, Chief investment Strategist, Oak Associates, Ltd.

Students and faculty participating in the three-day conference will attend specialized breakout sessions, a career strategies forum, and security analysis and portfolio management workshops. They may also enter an optional student-managed portfolio competition. In addition, a poll will also be conducted to predict the best- and worst-performing sectors for the year, and the results will be released during the conference.

''It was an amazing experience for me to sit on the stage with such prestigious players on Wall Street and interact with them,'' said Kristen Klaus, who served on a student panel during R.I.S.E. and obtained a position with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers in New York City upon graduation that spring.
