John Travolta, Patrick Swayze Spark Novel Idea

Secret of the Dance, the latest novel from Susan Eileen Walker, came about after talking with a friend about the dream of a movie where John Travolta and Patrick Swayze dance together.

New Bern, NC (PRWEB) March 16, 2006 -– Author Susan Walker can find ideas for writing projects almost anywhere. Her fourth novel, Secret of the Dance, came about after a conversation during the summer of 2003 with her friend, Blonnie Bunn Wyche, who lives in Wilmington.

“Blonnie was telling me that John Travolta had been filming scenes for a movie just down the street from her. That got us talking about our favorite movies with Mr. Travolta. She told me the movie she’d love to see would be where John Travolta and Patrick Swayze dance together. Something clicked and I started to tell her the story of two brothers who dance. After playing with the idea for the next week, I started writing,” Ms. Walker explained.

Swayze is most famous for his dancing in “Dirty Dancing.” Travolta of “Saturday Night Fever” and “Pulp Fiction” fame has danced in many of his movies.

Chance and Jeremy Applewhite, small town brothers who love dance, chose very different paths after high school. Jeremy headed for the fame and glory of the New York City dance world. Chance stayed in their small town, choosing a family and the steady work of owning his own restaurant, dancing only in his spare time at the small dance studio he and his wife, Stacy, run. Over the years, the distance between the brothers grows in more than just miles.

After seventeen years away, Jeremy returns home unannounced and discovers his beloved grandmother has died, and he's too late to make amends for never keeping in touch. Devastated by the loss and his own injuries he must figure out how to rebuild his life. Chance is not exactly pleased to see his older brother. Remi, Chance's sixteen-year-old daughter, herself a dancer, is thrilled by her uncle's return and spends every moment running errands for him. Tensions build as Chance feels Jeremy's presence could cause trouble and he threatens to reveal a long-kept secret.

A heart-felt novel about pursuing dreams and being true to your heart, Secret of the Dance explores a family's struggle to adjust to the changes caused by Jeremy's homecoming, Remi's growing into an independent young woman and the revelation of family secrets.
“Who knows, maybe someday Secret of the Dance will be made into a movie,” Ms. Walker said.

In addition to working on her next novel, Ms. Walker runs a one-woman medical transcription service. She donates over 500 baby hats each year to hospital nurseries, sings in her church’s choir and daydreams.
