Military-to-Civilian Recruiter Credits Veterans’ Character, Diversity, Clearances, and Skill Sets for Company’s Growth

RecruitMilitary, LLC, a military-to-civilian recruiting firm, is expanding rapidly; and Drew Myers, the company president, gives full credit to the characteristics of the nation’s veterans. “We have a great story to tell about veterans,” said Myers, “and we are getting the word out.” RecruitMilitary helps men and women who have a military background find civilian jobs. As Myers explains, “We tell employers that, when they recruit military, they are recruiting four outstanding attributes: character, diversity, security clearances, and skill sets.” RecruitMilitary’s growth was the subject of a recent article in The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Cincinnati (PRWEB) March 17, 2006 -- RecruitMilitary, LLC, a military-to-civilian recruiting firm, is expanding rapidly; and Drew Myers, the company president, gives full credit to the characteristics of the nation’s veterans. “We have a great story to tell about veterans,” said Myers, “and we are getting the word out.”

RecruitMilitary helps men and women who have a military background find civilian jobs. As Myers explains, “We tell employers that, when they recruit military, they are recruiting four outstanding attributes: character, diversity, security clearances, and skill sets.” As a result of RecruitMilitary’s growth, the company expects to increase its payroll from 38 to 55 by the end of 2006. RecruitMilitary’s growth was the subject of a recent article in The Cincinnati Enquirer - http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060312/BIZ01/603120358/1076/BIZ

Character
“Companies need employees with character traits that are common among the military,” said Myers. “These include initiative, self-discipline, leadership, and a strong work ethic.” Myers cites a recent study that supports this statement. “In 2005, researchers asked companies that are members of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) about barriers to their human-resources planning strategies. Nearly half of the companies responding to the survey indicated that their current employees had inadequate basic employability skills, such as attendance, timeliness, and work ethic.”

Diversity
“Employers recognize that the veteran talent pool is a great source of minority and female candidates,” said Myers. “The active-duty component of the armed forces is roughly 20 percent African-American, 9 percent Hispanic, and 13 percent female; and our own database of candidates reflects these numbers.” RecruitMilitary maintains a growing database of self-registered job candidates who have a military background—the database currently numbers about 105,000.

Clearances
“Security clearances are an absolute necessity in many civilian jobs, especially among defense and other federal contractors,” Myers said. “So a job candidate with a security clearance can move up the line.” About 20 percent of the candidates in the RecruitMilitary database have active clearances, and another 24 percent had clearances that recently expired.

Skill Sets
“The 2005 NAM research revealed severe shortages of work skills in the manufacturing industry,” said Myers, “and veterans have skill sets that are a good match for the shortages. So we recently forged a Veteran Hiring Initiative with the Manufacturing Institute—the research and education arm of the NAM.” Under this arrangement, members of the NAM can obtain subscriptions enabling them to search the RecruitMilitary database, post jobs that are viewable by all of the candidates in the database, and send E-Mail Blasts to selected groups of candidates.
