Irish Fiber Artist Launches Online Yarn Boutique on St. Patrick’s Day

Crafty Garden to offer yarns by Bernat, Caron, Lion Brand, ModaDea, New York Yarns, Red Heart and TLC along with knitting needles and crochet hooks beginning in March, National Craft Month.

West Hills, CA (PRWEB) March 17, 2006 -- Knitting and Crocheting is no longer just for those with silver hair and orthopedic shoes. The new generation of knitters and crocheters, the under-35 group, has picked up its knitting needles and crochet hooks to craft anything from scarves to beanies to afghans. Sara Hoos, a member of this new generation of yarn crafters, has transformed her lifelong love of yarn into an online business at www.CraftyGarden.com, to be launched on March 17, 2006. Crafty Garden offers a wide variety of yarn not usually carried by or kept in stock by the major retail chains. Crafty Garden will be meeting the project and yarn stash needs of over 38 million yarn enthusiasts in the United States.

According to 2004 and 2005 research commissioned by the Craft Yarn Council of America (CYCA), young women ages 25-34 are in the loop more than ever. Since 2002, participation in these crafts increased more than 150% in this age category. Young men are also getting involved, as an April 2004 article in the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Knitting clubs and classes are popping up in high schools and colleges across America as young people express themselves creatively with yarn, often wearing their handiwork. Hollywood endorsement also contributes to youth acceptance of the craft, since many celebrities including Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz not only wear knitted couture, but knit and crochet on and off movie sets.

The return of vintage clothing and the rise in popularity of new fashion yarns has made fiber art very appealing to many new yarn craft devotees. According to Richard Brown, Chairman of CYCA, "It's not a fad…it's an evolution, a lifestyle phenomenon.” In fact, research conducted by the group has shown that fiber artists grow more passionate about knitting and crocheting over time, increasing the number of projects undertaken per year as well as the complexity of each one.

“My own love of yarn began when I was 13, as my Irish grandmother painstakingly began to teach me to crochet,” states Crafty Garden owner Sara Hoos. “In honor of her, I decided to open my online yarn store on St. Patrick’s Day. Because of her natural talent as an Irishwoman for fiber art, I think it’s no coincidence that St. Patrick’s Day falls in March, National Craft Month.” As a testimony to her craftiness, Sara Hoos created a 5,000-piece Lego lighthouse that serves as Crafty Garden’s unofficial headquarters, located in her Certified National Wildlife Federation Backyard Habitat of this home-based business.

Sara Hoos, fiber artist and owner of Crafty Garden, www.CraftyGarden.com, is a work-at-home mompreneur. Crafty Garden is a corporate member of Crochet Guild of America. Sara Hoos also owns and operates WAHM-Resource at www.WAHM-Resource.com. She is available for interviews via e-mail or via phone at 818-625.1970.
