The British are Coming... and They Can Cook
The Manchester Arms, the new British Pub on Virginia Avenue in College Park, is fast becoming one of the most popular watering holes on the South side of town.
College Park, GA (PRWEB) March 19, 2006 -- The Manchester Arms, the new British Pub on Virginia Avenue in College Park, is fast becoming one of the most popular watering holes on the South side of town. The restaurant that features a full lunch and dinner menu bills itself as in the vanguard of the ‘Gastro Pub’ revolution that visitors to the United Kingdom may have experienced in recent years. British bars have typically been known for fine ales on draft and lively chatter. Food, if it was offered, was not always the high point. Over the last ten years or so British palettes have demanded finer fare and pubs and restaurants have enjoyed a sparkling renaissance that has seen many being voted as among the best in the world.
Tom Swann and Edward Worsley have brought the new taste of this ‘Gastro’ menu to a 1930’s historic home converted to a typical British Pub Restaurant in one of the Metro’s newest hot spots and have so far found a willing and loyal audience for the new offering.
“We opened with an ambitious and eclectic menu that features a unique blend of European and North American food.” Said Edward Worsley, a transplanted Yorkshire native. “So far we have been delighted with how it has been received”
Fish and chips, the mainstay of the British palette, is featured on a menu alongside a twist on Bangers and Mash, a Shepherd’s Pie and that most elusive of English delicacies, the Yorkshire Pudding.
The Manchester Arms has lifted these popular staples to new heights with lively seasonings and exciting presentations. The mashed red potatoes and ‘nouvelle’ vegetables have brought high praise from a clientele that appreciates these Southern favorites prepared with a European flair.
The Manchester Arms features three separate dining spaces seating up to 80 people on two floors. The décor, to those who have spent a happy evening in a real British pub, will be recognizable down to the photos of the owners families that decorate the walls, the vintage naval Union Jack and bench booths, antique tables and ‘snugs’.
Located less than a mile from I85 and a short walk from local hotels, the pub is open Monday through Saturday and while reservations aren’t always required they can be made and might be advisable. But visitors can always, ‘belly up to the bar’ where Drew and Chris can serve the best of European beer on tap and a full menu.
The Manchester Arms is a venture of Worsley-Swann Enterprise and is located at 1705 Virginia Avenue, College Park. More information can be found at www.themanchesterarms.com
