New Social Networking Site Allows Users to Decide What Personal Finance and Investing News is Important

Flogz, the newest addition to a growing roster of social networking websites, is building an online community for personal finance and investment news. Similar to Digg, Flogz allows users to submit links that are voted on by other users, and promoted to the main page based on their popularity. The result? A constantly-updating shortlist of the best personal finance and investing articles on the web.

Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) March 21, 2006 -- Flogz (http://www.flogz.com) is the newest addition to a growing roster of social networking websites dominated by players like Digg, MySpace and YouTube. But Flogz has some magic up its sleeve: a niche.

"I've been using Digg for about eight months, and I'm a personal finance geek," said founder Rob Walling, "so I kept waiting for someone to merge the two concepts. After months of waiting I decided I needed to make it happen."

Flogz is a personal finance and investing website that allows users to submit links that are voted on by other users, and promoted to the main page based on their popularity. The goal of Flogz is to eliminate the need to visit multiple websites for personal finance and investing news. As with Digg, the power of Flogz grows dramatically with each new user; more users means more stories, more stories means a broader range of sources, and more votes means the best stories rise to the top.

Utilizing an open-source software package called Pligg, Rob and his team launched Flogz in late February to much fanfare.

"Right out of the gate we had links from some very popular blogs, and saw the number of stories double overnight. Our marketing effort has focused on the personal finance bloggers we read on a daily basis, and word has spread from there. Readership, story submission, and votes have taken off faster than we expected."

Catering to the world of personal finance bloggers and readers, Rob and his team have already added new features such as a bookmarklet that allows users to easily submit an article, and the ability for bloggers to add "Flog this post!" links to their blog posts.

"We're still in the early stages, so we're dividing our time between spreading the word and creating new features. The success has been great, and right now we're just taking it as it comes."

Flogz also hosts a blog discussing the trials and tribulations of running the website, located at http://www.flogz.com/blog/.
