The Big Giant Button Officially Launches on March 27; Press it... See What Happens

In a world where sites are selling individual pixels, the Big Giant Button offers something very different -- one really big button with one new link each and every day. Visitors to BigGiantButton.com won't be able to miss the biggest button on the Internet.

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) March 26, 2006 -- With the success of the Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage, followed by what seems like a million "pixel ad" copy-cat sites, one new site dares to be different. The Big Giant Button homepage, launching today at http://www.biggiantbutton.com/ does not have hundreds or thousands of links. It has one really big button. That's it.

Each day, the Big Giant Button will be linked to a different site. "What we link to will change from day to day" says the enigmatic 'Button Guy'. "The very first link is to a classic web page called 'The Really Big Button That Doesn't Do Anything'. That site goes back to the earliest days of the World Wide Web, and was the main inspiration for the Big Giant Button."

Beyond that, Button Guy isn't giving much away. "After the first day, we'll link to various things: new technology sites, classic Internet applications, blogs, podcasts, goofy stuff, good causes. Users will have to check back each day and see what they get."

While the initial sites will be selected solely by the Big Giant Button team, Button Guy does not rule out paid placement of links in the future.

"Hey, we've all got to eat!" he laughs. "We'll approve everything first, but I can certainly foresee allowing select sponsor linking on the button for a day. What you definitely won't see is us cluttering the page with a bunch of banners, search ads or the like. To me, that goes against the essence of the concept -- one page with one button, nothing more."

While the concept might sound simplistic, Button Guy hopes the Big Giant Button will inspire some serious conversation about the interfaces of Internet applications.

"If you look at something like Google, I believe a big part of their success is the simplicity of the interface." he says. "There's something classic and even beautiful about it. Many new sites are just so cluttered; they try to cram in too much junk! I think a lot of the designers of new sites and applications would do well to look at a simpler model. It's a dialogue I hope we can encourage."
