With the incidences of diabetes on the rise, diabetic ulcers are one of the most common chronic foot wounds treated at Diversified Therapy’s 80 hospital-based wound care centers across the country. Diversified Therapy offers tips for good foot health and foot care for April’s National Foot Health Awareness Month. Diversified Therapy recommends diabetics:
“Diabetes is becoming an insidious health problem,” explained Diversified Therapy President and CEO James Henry. “It’s estimated there are 82,000 amputations annually for diabetics with wounds. Prompt and aggressive treatment of diabetic ulcers can often save a limb.”
Diabetic ulcers are wounds that occur on the foot, heel or toe of people with diabetes. Many times there is little to no feeling in the feet or the ulcer itself. A pulse is present and the skin is normal or warm to the touch. Diabetics should consult their physician if they suspect they may have a diabetic ulcer. If a wound has not started to heal in two weeks or completely healed in six weeks, the patient may benefit from a specialized wound care center.
Diversified Therapy centers offer new technologies and treatments for chronic wounds. These treatments include specialized wound care, wound tracking technology and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). With centers located in 27 states and 80 hospitals nationwide, Diversified Therapy is a leader in wound care and disease prevention.
