After several weeks of work and upgrades, Meridix Creative, Inc. has completed the conversion of all of its network services to be run exclusively over internet port 80. The aim is to reduce or completely eliminate connection troubles encountered at port-blocked internet connections and high-security networks.

The nature of broadcasting, reporting scores, and covering live events requires that individuals be highly mobile. As a result, broadcasters often use a new internet connection every single day. However, some broadcasters have not been able to connect to the Meridix Broadcast Network, or keep a steady connection, because network administrators have enforced port blocking rules. In the age of viruses and security threats, many administrators have opted to block all unknown ports (points where servers listen to incoming requests) except port 80 for HTML, port 22 for FTP, etc. Port 80 is the internet port by which a majority of web pages are transferred, and is thus the most common and open port on the internet. With the new port 80 compatibility, all Meridix services now run over port 80 and are viewed no differently, even by high-security networks, than viewing a simple web page. Thus, connection problems should be either reduced or virtually eliminated for Meridix LiveID and MeridixID members. Meridix engineers certified the change was complete on Tuesday.

The port 80 change affects nearly all Meridix Broadcast Network components, from broadcast software to data delivery. For more information on the Meridix Broadcast Network, visit http://www.meridix.com/golive.
