Millionsecondshomepage.com Aims to Capture this Moment Forever

Jens Bierkandt has created Millionsecondshomepage.com. He invites people from all over the world to upload any genre of audio and contribute to his audio time capsule.

(PRWEB) April 25, 2006 -- Imagine a kaleidoscopic audio archive made up of one million seconds of sound reflecting the variety of life on earth right now. Everything from music, spoken word and family memorabilia to profiles, stories and independent journalism will all come together to form an internet radio station redefining the word eclectic.

I must admit, it's a crazy idea, but maybe crazy enough to work
The Millionsecondhomepage.com is just such a project. Jens Bierkandt, a 33 year old German musician, is the brainchild behind the page, taking the idea of pixel advertising and adding another dimension.

"I must admit, it's a crazy idea, but maybe crazy enough to work," Bierkandt said. "I'm not even sure about the results, how many people will participate or what contents the audio files will have."

The rules are quite simple; each second on the Millionsecondhomepage.com costs $1. If users upload more than 100 seconds, they will qualify for a pixel graphic on the site's front page. The image serves as a link back to the user's homepage. Visitors can either listen to the uploaded files as an audio stream or download individual audio files as podcasts. Users can keep updated on new submissions by subscribing to an RSS feed.

Bierkandt is open to all genres on his page, but will not accept anything offensive, hateful, illegal or obscene. He's will not accept copyrighted material. He asks participants to upload only their own self-produced sound or material over which they retain clear copyright control.

When the project is complete, he will preserve the results onto discs, where the audio record of this time will live forever. Bierkandt is also working on plans to aim the audio stream right into space.

So far, he's sold over 2,000 seconds. Mostly his customers have been German, but some, such as roots-rock band King King hail from the United States. His submissions range from tracks by unsigned bands – including a German language piece about Swedish carrot cake -- to a raucous wedding song recorded at a joyous reception. Bierkandt is ready to take his project global.

"I'm very excited and looking forward to where this project leads." Bierkandt said. "I'm a happy man, love to tell stories and like to laugh a lot. I think this project will even make me laugh a little bit louder."
