Candace Allen, Miss DC USA Will Represent the Nation's Capitol at the Miss USA Pagent

Candace Allen (Miss District of Columbia USA) will compete for the title of Miss USA® in the 55th Annual Miss USA® Competition on Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Baltimore 1st Mariner Arena at 9:00 p.m. (EST). The internationally celebrated event will air live on NBC on April 21st, 2006.

Trained in classical ballet, Candace, a strikingly beautiful, smart and poised young lady will compete with 50 other delegates from US. The Miss DC pageant is the preliminary competition leading up to the national Miss USA competition.

Candace a graduating senior at Howard University, is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Arts degree in Legal Communications, and aspires to be an attorney with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).    Candace states "I hope to one-day assist in the areas of interstate and international communications. In addition, I wish to keep in tact America’s core values of freedom of speech, freedom of press, and freedom of expression. I would also like to one day open up an after school program for middle and high school students within the DC Metropolitan area. This program would provide help in academics, while reinforcing the importance of a good education, self-esteem, and self-worth."

Community service is also a major part of Miss DC's life, she has volunteered with the Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross (Hurricane Katrina relief) and the IBE (International Ballet exchange), in addition to volunteering and supporting numerous after school programs across the country.

During the three-week pageant period, thousands of friends, family members and fans are expected to visit DC Metropolitian area (inclusive of MD and VA) and millions will tune-in to watch the live telecast, providing substantial exposure for the area. Each contestant will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview.

The 2005 Miss USA pageant was distributed to a record-breaking 100 countries and territories. North Carolina native Chelsea Cooley, Miss USA 2005, will crown her successor at the conclusion of the two-hour primetime telecast, before an estimated worldwide viewing audience of 250 million. Along with Executive Producer, Donald J. Trump, the Gurin Company will again produce Miss USA 2006 with veteran television Writer and Executive Producer Phil Gurin at the helm.

Miss Universe Organization
