(PRWEB) April 25, 2006 -- A recent study shows that more than 60 million Americans consider themselves “intellectually curious.”

A new website, http://www.ponderfodder.com invites them, and their curious counterparts in the rest of the world, to satisfy their curiosity by indulging in a bit of “brainporn.”

There are so many new and interesting things happening in the world today
Ponderfodder.com is a site where users can learn about and discuss the latest ideas, theories, discoveries, and inventions. Everything from the latest speculation on the presence of water on Mars, to theories on the seat of human consciousness, to the implications of 40,000 year old footprints in North America, will be discussed.

“There are so many new and interesting things happening in the world today,” says co-founder Chandra Clarke. “We wanted to create a space where anyone could learn about, discuss, and debate them, and hopefully come away with a better understanding of the issues involved.”

The site has seven main sections. News/Sites is for posting links to news articles and relevant sites which keep “PoFo” users informed. A Book/Media Club is for reviews of interesting books and other media. A calendar of Events tracks things like lecture dates, meteor showers, and upcoming conferences. A user-maintained Glossary provides an in-house reference to help explain some of the jargon that will inevitably come into conversation.

The three remaining sections provide a unique level of depth to the site. The Ask section allows users to ask each other questions about how something works, or why some phenomenon might occur. The Speculate area prompts users to write mini-essays designed to bring interesting and perhaps otherwise obscure reference sources to the attention of the community and generate a wide ranging discussion or debate on the matter.

Finally, the Participate section is for posting links, or contact information about a project, study, expedition, experiment etc., that members of the general public can participate in. The idea is to spread the word about ways that average citizens anywhere in the world can get involved in the quest for knowledge.

“This site is going to be a lot of fun,” says Clarke. “There will always be something new and different and utterly fascinating to talk about.”
