Mother's Day and Father's Day Gift Ideas Shift to Unique Rather than the Usual Gifts

May begins a gift-giving period that is punctuated with Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduations, Weddings and Anniversaries. The gift industry shifts into high-gear as consumers crave unique gifts.

Flower Mound, TX (PRWEB) April 26, 2006 -- The gift industry kicks into high-gear in April as May traditionally heats up the gift giving season after a lull in February and March.

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduations are seen as a major catalyst for gift giving, along with the increase in weddings and corresponding anniversaries in May and June. The industry is abuzz with the prospects of 2006 being a record year for sales as a result of an improving economy.

Though many merchants are looking for record sales, consumers are making it clear that they are looking for unique and unusual gifts. “I am so tired of giving the same things year after year, I am just trying to find something really cool and different to give,” Anita Rubio, 35, Island Heights, New Jersey, explains.

“I want to give something they will really like and remember instead of wear once and stick in a closet, or something that stays hidden until I come over to visit,” she explains further.

The demand for unique gifts may have some of the more traditional vendors concerned as more niche vendors and suppliers try to make a splash in the market.

With traditional stores bound by limited shelf-space, online retailers are filling the need for creative and unique gifts. Vendors like FunnyBit Studios are able to offer clients creative and unusual gifts like personalized videos with the recipient’s photos in them.

“Personalized gifts are great but hard to find. I mean there are only so many things you can engrave. I like when you can add their picture or pictures to something, that is always fun,” Rubio explains.

FunnyBit Studios and other vendors that offer unique gifts that are fun to give and fun to receive may prove to be the biggest beneficiaries of the anticipated increase in gift giving. As the gift-giving season heats up, consumers will decide if humor is the way to go and that unique gifts actually are a laughing matter.
