Animax Entertainment Wins Emmy Award - “Off-Mikes” Animated Series for ESPN.com Wins in New Broadband Emmy Category

Animax Entertainment, a leading animation production studio, won a Sports Emmy Award for “Off-Mikes,” the weekly original animated series they produce for ESPN.com. Animax Entertainment and ESPN.com won for Outstanding Achievement in Content for Non-Traditional Delivery Platforms, a category that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences debuted this year. This is Animax’s first Emmy Award and it is also quite likely the first time character animation has ever won a Sports Emmy Award.

Culver City, CA (PRWEB) May 6, 2006 -- Animax Entertainment, a leading animation production studio, won a Sports Emmy Award for “Off-Mikes,” the weekly original animated series they produce for ESPN.com.

“Off-Mikes” is a weekly animated series based on the ESPN Radio show Mike & Mike In the Morning featuring Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg. Episodes from the series are archived online Off-Mikes. To create each episode Animax edits audio from the live radio program and then writes a script which takes the story in unexpected and hilarious directions. Animax animates each episode using traditional 2D animation techniques and Macromedia Flash, a software product recently acquired by Adobe (this is one of the first few Emmys awarded to a Flash production.) The animated episodes debut on ESPN's broadband video portal called Motion and are then are ported for mobile and television use.

This is huge. The entire team at Animax is very excited that we won an Emmy
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences created the new Emmy Award category -- Outstanding Achievement in Content for Non-Traditional Delivery Platforms -- specifically to recognize the impact the Internet, cell phones, iPods, PDAs and other devices were having on the creation and distribution of original content.

“This is huge. The entire team at Animax is very excited that we won an Emmy,” said Tim Jones, Head of Production at Animax Entertainment and the producer of “Off-Mikes.”

“I'm very happy all the hard work put into this project paid off with this award,” said Mike Golic. “Greeny [Mike Greenberg and I understand the time consuming work it takes to put ‘Off-Mikes’ on the air…we really do appreciate the hard work involved.”

"To get this kind of validation for our work is truly amazing," said Animax Entertainment General Manager Michael Bellavia. "We were very early to enter the market of producing animated broadband content, so it's especially rewarding that our first Emmy is in this first ever category. Big thanks to the Academy."

The 27th Annual Sports Emmy Awards were presented at a ceremony on Monday, May 1 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center located in the Time Warner Center in New York City.
