Postsecret Saves the Nation’s Suicide Hotline, 1-800-SUICIDE

Without the necessary funding to meet the ongoing costs of 1-800 SUICIDE, the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (KBHC) called on Postsecret Founder, Frank Warren for help. On April 16th he posted a plea for support on the Postsecret web site, www.Postsecret.com. The outpouring from Postsecret readers was immediate. The resources needed to continue the hotline for another 30 days was exceeded in a matter of few hours. In total, the effort raised over thirty thousand dollars from over 900 donors in just over one week.

Please, I know it's not a lot of money... Just don't let this place close.

I read your plea on Postsecret. I certainly hope you receive the additional funds you need. I am in Canada, and don't have a lot of money, but I know that anything helps. Don't worry about sending a tax rct. I hope this helps even a little. Thanks for all that you do!

When I saw the donation message, I didn’t think twice about making one...my only thought was that I hope I can make a large enough one to make a difference....(I was always taught, every little bit counts). Good luck.

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) May 5, 2006 -- Without the necessary funding to meet the ongoing costs of 1-800-SUICIDE, the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (KBHC) called on Postsecret Founder Frank Warren for help.

On April 16th he posted a plea for support on the Postsecret web site, www.Postsecret.com. The outpouring from Postsecret readers was immediate. The resources needed to continue the hotline for another 30 days was exceeded in a matter of few hours. In total, the effort raised over thirty thousand dollars from over 900 donors in just over one week.

Every month, 1-800-SUICIDE connects more than 35,000 callers to a local crisis center and a trained first responder. To do so, KBHC depends on public donations from individuals and public media messages asking for support.

While the future of the line is still not assured the KBHC believes that others will follow the Postsecret lead and help keep the line from being turned off. Postsecret.com had its largest traffic in the crucial month leading up to the posting of a plea for help. According to Postsecret founder Frank Warren the site logged over 3 million visitors in the previous month.

Without the help of Postsecret, its founder Frank Warren and the Postsecret readers and their incredible support of 1-800-SUICIDE the nation would have lost an 8 year old resource that has connected almost 2 million callers to help and hope.
