National Parenting Expert Says That Every Day Is Mother’s Day

Parenting Expert Hal Runkel, LMFT is suggesting that every day should be Mother's Day. He says that giving mom just one day a year is the wrong message; instead we should honor mom every day of the year.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 9, 2006 -- “We should change Mother's day to be every day" says national parenting expert Hal Runkel, LMFT, author and creator of the award-winning and best-selling ScreamFree Parenting Program. Having a Mother’s day just one Sunday in May suggests that on this one day of the year, the husband, and all the kids should make everything special for mom, give her breakfast in bed, let her choose the restaurant to go to, and maybe buy her some nice gifts of chocolate, jewelry, or spa treatments.

“Hallmark isn't going to like me for this.” continued Runkel, whose ScreamFree Parenting program is creating revolutionary relationships in households everywhere. “While it sounds great to have a day when we recognize and appreciate our moms who do so much in our families, what about the other 364 days?” he said.

While it sounds great to have a day when we recognize and appreciate our moms who do so much in our families, what about the other 364 days?
Runkel has been counseling families for years on the ScreamFree method of parenting, and he has children of his own, so he’s well aware of this Mother’s day ritual that goes on in so many homes everywhere. “I’m sure we’ve all heard it before, and we may remember it from our childhood when on Mother’s day, the kids all ask ‘Why can’t we have a special day—it’s no fair that there’s a Mother’s day and there’s not a kids day’. And we repeat it to our kids year after year: “That’s because every day is kids day”, the parents recite.

Runkel disagrees. Every day is Mother’s Day; every day is Kid’s Day; every day is Father’s Day. Each day is a special gift, and we all should be the best we can be and make the best of every day. Runkel’s ScreamFree Parenting Program lays out a set of principles for parenting that hopefully, would make the kids want to honor their mom’s not just on one Sunday in May, but on each and every day.
