Clergy Abuse Survivor-Victim to Speak in Brookline

Robert Costello will speak on his experience as a survivor-victim of clergy sexual abuse on Monday, June 5th (7:00-8:30PM) in the Parish Hall at St. Lawrence Church, 774 Boylston St., in Chestnut Hill.

(PRWEB) May 14, 2006 -- The Brookline Chapter of Voice of the Faithful will sponsor a survivor-victim of clergy sexual abuse to speak on Monday, June 5th (7:00-8:30PM) in the Parish Hall at St. Lawrence Church, 774 Boylston St., in Chestnut Hill. VOTF is committed to continuing to support survivor-victims of clergy sexual abuse and raise awareness in the larger community in order to prevent further abuse.

Robert Costello will join us to speak of his experience as a survivor-victim of clergy sexual abuse. He has been a strong advocate for victims testifying at the Massachusetts Judiciary Committee on the matter of Statutes of Limitations for sex abuse crimes. Personally, Robert settled his case successfully with the Archdiocese of Boston despite the current statute of limitations legislation.

Robert is a well known speaker on the issue of clergy sexual abuse. He is a leader and member of SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests). And, he is a founding member and president of “A Matter of Truth” (AMOT). AMOT is a survivor driven group seeking change through legislation. The website for “A Matter of Truth” is: www.amatteroftruth.org                ;

The clergy sexual abuse issue has had a profound affect on all of us…and it’s not over…as evidenced recently by new allegations in the Boston Archdiocese. As laity, we are all responsible for understanding the issue and holding our church leaders accountable for their actions regarding this grave issue within the church.

This is an opportunity for us to hear first-hand the impact of clergy sexual abuse on survivors and to demonstrate our support for those who have been abused.

Please join us for this important event. For more information contact Dolores Thomas at 617-739-6465 or doloresrthomas @ verizon.net

All are welcome.
