(PRWEB) May 14, 2006 -- Fanz to Support the Darlington Racing Tradition have selected their Mother of the Year and Woman of the Year for 2006. These individuals have made significant contributions to motorsports. The focus of these individual’s accomplishments are based upon family values. Family values are the reason that NASCAR has and will continue to be successful.

Our Mother of the Year is Mary Opal Harrod. She is deceased and her son, Kevin Harrod, nominated her because of her life time dedication to the family and motorsports. Her husband was heavily involved in motorsports and she raised 10 children. She was always at the track and supported her husband’s career in racing, along with being a full-time mother and homemaker. She was truly a heroine and an inspiration. Her son’s statement about her was: “She made our family whole by keeping the faith in our Dad, Racing, and God.”

Our Woman of the Year is Michelle Dyer. She is an avid supporter of NASCAR and works tirelessly in promoting motorsports. She is a reporter who happens to be blind and she tells her story in a way that helps we who are sighted to better appreciate our sport. She uses her other senses to experience her sport and tells her story from that point of view. She is an excellent reporter who relates the humanistic perspective of racing. She has struggled to become recognized as a legitimate reporter and is an inspiration.

These two women are outstanding nominees and are examples of the contributions of women in motorsports.
