Flock U Say the Alumni Parrots of Flock University

The alumni parrots of Flock University have just one thing to say to people that don't "get it" about birds - and that's "Flock U." The college fundraiser has created several products to squawk about.

Pope Valley, CA (PRWEB) May 24, 2006 -- The alumni parrots of Flock University have just one thing to say to people that don't "get it" about birds - and that's "Flock U."

The Class of 2005 is publishing the cover art from the school Yearbook cover on a series of products including a 16" x 20" poster, t-shirts, coffee mugs and mousepads. Visit the Flock U Store at www.cafepress.com/flockuniversity to purchase the items.

Most of the birds pictured still roost with Bonnie Zimmermann, founder of The Wild Connection, a non-profit group created to improve the lives of companion birds as well as to study parrot behavior in the wild (www.thewildconnection.org).

As a Director of Project Bird Watch, Bonnie recently participated an historic event - the first-ever scientific release of Cockatoos back into the jungle. The birds had been rescued from smugglers, and rehabilitated over 18 months at the group's parrot sanctuary in Indonesia called Kembali-Bebas (www.indonesianparrotproject.org).

Bonnie is leaving soon for Indonesia to collaborate in a university research program taking a census of the wild birds. After her return in July, she will be speaking (along with Sally Blanchard, well known avian behaviorist) at the Long Island Parrot Society Cockatoo Convention on July 8th in New York.

Most of the Flock U students are rescues from abuse or have outlived their former owners. "It's an old folks home," says Zimmermann. Half of the profits from the alumni products will go to The Wild Connection. The campus motto is "adopto, servo, liberatio" which translates to "adopt, rescue, release." The college is in Poop Valley, and has an eclectic mix of students from Africa and the Amazon, all pictured in glorious high resolution photography.

Bird species shown include the Red Lored Amazon, Yellow Lored Amazon, African Grey, Jardines, White Capped Pionus, Green Winged Macaw, Cherry Headed Conure and more.

Filmmaker/musician, Robert Battaile (the former Flock U. janitor) conceived the school fundraiser, took the photos and designed the artwork (www.calexas.com/Art/). Battaile directed the comedy musical movie "SANTA AND SONS & daughter!" and has released a new cd called "The First 30 years."
