Modular Team Wins "Green" Classroom Design Challenge

Triumph Modular and NRB Build Tomorrow's Classroom Today

Littleton, MA (PRWEB) May 26, 2006 -- The team of Triumph Modular (Littleton, MA); NRB, Inc. (Grimsby, Ontario); and Architectural Resource Cambridge (Cambridge, MA), has combined to win the national Portable Classroom Design Challenge sponsored by The School District of Montgomery County, MD. The design contest featured entries from across the United States and Canada.

The Montgomery County school district, in their quest for more energy efficient, sustainable portable classroom buildings, created the Portable Classroom Design Challenge and opened it to the design and construction industry. Among the award categories was a competition for Design Professionals and Manufacturers of Portable Classrooms.

It’s time that we all have greater appreciation for the benefits of building ‘green,’ not only for the future protection of our environment and resources, but for the well-being and comfort of the students and teachers who occupy the buildings.
The First Place award for Portable Classroom Design was presented to the team of NRB, Triumph Modular and Architectural Resource Cambridge at a High Performance Schools symposium in Washington, DC.

The winning design, which is a collaborative effort by the team, is a new and highly innovative classroom design. It strikes a balance between environmental sensitivity, high performance, initial cost and life cycle costs, while still addressing the ultimate flexibility of relocation that is a cornerstone of the temporary classroom application. The team’s design incorporates “green” initiatives for LEED NC certification, and promotes a positive environmental impact, indoor air quality and energy efficiency.

As they prepare to market and build the new design, Cliff Cort, president of Triumph Modular, and Laurie Robert, vice-president of NRB, agree, “It’s time that we all have greater appreciation for the benefits of building ‘green,’ not only for the future protection of our environment and resources, but for the well-being and comfort of the students and teachers who occupy the buildings.”

Blending and balancing all the elements of sustainability, versatility and appeal, the new classroom also includes a “fun factor” for kids. Removable panels over the entrances allow each class to “personalize” their classroom by painting their own mural, giving the teacher and the students “ownership” of their own space. The classroom can also be used as a hands-on teaching tool for students to study “green” principles, and learn the significance of their role in the protection of our environment and resources today, and in the future.

The new model classroom will be built by NRB in Ephrata, PA and Grimsby, ON, and will be available through Triumph Modular to public and private schools in the New England area within the next 3 – 4 months.
