PRWeb Revamps Podcast Licensing to Allow for Sampling

Podcasts carried at PRWeb are now available to content producers including podcasters and main stream media under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 License. This move supercedes the prior more restrictive license, making all PRWeb podcast content past and present available for sampling; including the popular Apple iPod m4a format. PRWeb, the company that spearheaded the search engine optimized press release revolution, is changing the way consumers interact with PR.
We decided to replace the more restrictive Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 2.5 with the Sampling Plus version in response to requests from the podcasting community

Ferndale, WA (PRWEB) May 31, 2006 -- PRWeb, the Internet’s leading press release visibility service , announces significant changes to their podcast licensing. Effective today all podcasts delivered through PRWebPodcast.com, PRWeb’s podcasting service, are released under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 license. This license is being made retroactively to all current and archived podcast content.

Under the terms of the new license individuals are permitted to; A) Sample, mash-up, or otherwise creatively transform this work for commercial or noncommercial purposes, and B) perform, display, and distribute copies of this whole work for noncommercial purposes (e.g., file-sharing or noncommercial webcasting). The Sampling Plus 1.0 license allows for greater flexibility while requiring the podcaster sampling the work to attribute the source of the sampled content to PRWeb. Complete details of the Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 license are available at http://301url.com/samplingplus1.

“We decided to replace the more restrictive Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 2.5 with the Sampling Plus version in response to requests from the podcasting community,” stated Andrew Schlichting, Web 2.0 Content Manager for PRWeb. Sampling is the process of taking sound bites or significant segments from one podcast and incorporating them into a derivative work. The Sampling Plus license makes it possible for the individuals and producers to use content from PRWeb podcasts within their own podcast productions and consumer generated content. Andrew adds, “The unique format of our podcast interviews lends itself to creative sampling.”

David McInnis, PRWeb’s Founder and CEO, views this move as a windfall of available content for the podcasting community. “I am proud of the work that our podcast team has done in producing highly visible and popular podcasts on behalf of our customers. With today’s announcement, we are making new content available to content producers seeking creative content to incorporate into their work.”
