Database Management and Operations Report Released by GridApp Systems

Groundbreaking report addresses improvement initiatives and effective investment strategies for database management.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 1, 2006 -- GridApp Systems, the leading provider of database automation solutions, today announced the release of a groundbreaking research report entitled “Trends in Database Management: The Automation Opportunity.” The company has made the report available as a complimentary download from its website.

The report is based on an online survey sent to over 8,000 IT professionals and leaders with an interest in database operations. The report addresses key findings such as:

The manual processes that IT organizations follow in order to manage their database operations typically result in squandered DBA time and ability
1) DBAs are spending most of their time, over 50 percent on average, on replicable tasks as well as on problem identification and resolution. As a result of this consumption of DBAs’ time by non-value-add tasks, they have less time to spend on tasks that generate revenue for the company.
2) Many DBA managers want to staff more DBAs to alleviate management burdens, but companies do not want to increase their payroll.
3) Companies want to move away from point solutions for each database product toward a single management console to manage their complex multi-vendor multi-platform database infrastructure.

“The manual processes that IT organizations follow in order to manage their database operations typically result in squandered DBA time and ability,” said Rob Gardos, president and CEO of GridApp Systems. “This study shows that DBAs are spending the majority of their time putting out fires and maintaining the status quo. There is a real opportunity for IT operations to not only achieve significant cost reductions, but grow existing revenue through the introduction of database automation solutions. Moreover, the industry is ready for automation, with 83 percent of IT professionals currently seeking solutions to improve database administration.”

The research shows that an overwhelming percentage of companies are actively evaluating or considering the evaluation of solutions to improve database operations. Among the top initiatives identified by the survey respondents are upgrading database versions, deploying patches, optimizing performance, and ensuring security and compliance.
