Circus Surreal 2006 Awards "Critics Award" to Sculptor, Jeff Tritel
It was announced June 4 that bronze sculptor, Jeff Tritel was honored by art critics at New York show.
Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) June 11, 2006 -- Bronze sculptor, Jeff Tritel was named this year’s winner of the Micro Museum Circus Surreal 2006 Critic’s Award, this past Sunday at an award’s reception held in New York. Chosen from almost 200 initial entries and 43 finalists from 20 states, Tritel’s bronze sculpture entitled “Balancing Act” took top honors for how well it embraced the theme of circus and surrealism. The piece depicts a woman caught in a man’s world as she balances on a tightrope made up by two men. “One male could represent leaving family and going to a lover or it could be moving from the secular to the religious,” explains the artist. The selected finalists are said to represent the best of America’s free thinking artists according to curators Juliette Pelletier and Kathleen Laziza. This was the first year for the Circus Surreal competition at the Micro Museum. The museum hosts a number of artists in both traditional mediums as well as video, installations, and broadcasting virtual exhibits.
About the Artist: Born in Los Angeles in 1949, Jeff Tritel sculpts in wax as a first step to the lost-wax method of bronze casting. His work mainly reflects a figurative medium and he often draws from fantasy, mythology and psychology for his subject matter. “I sculpt my feelings and experiences. I sculpt the human condition,” he says “Often I start with an intellectual premise, then by incorporating personal sculptural symbolism, I will reach the essence of the subject.” Tritel has sold more than 2,000 bronze sculptures over the last 15 years to collectors around the world. Jeff Tritel has been recognized by the California Art Review, Encylopedia of Living Artists, and Artist’s Market.
