The dedicated section, a first for consumer cruising, is a result of feedback from Cruise Critic members, many of whom are genuinely anxious about this year’s hurricane season, one that is predicted to be as active as last year’s tragic six-month stretch.
The Hurricane Zone features need-to-know bulletins on storm-related diversions, as well as service-oriented features on topics ranging from travel insurance to a behind-the-scenes look at a cruise line’s response to a hurricane. The section will host weekly columnist Steve Faber, a longtime cruise contributor and resident in “the hurricane zone,” who will discourse, via “From the Desk of the Storm Meister,” about storm-related topics each Friday throughout the season. There’s a direct link to threads on Cruise Critic’s boards – the most popular forum in cruising for travelers to exchange viewpoints. And the section will also feature a map, courtesy of NOAA, that will be updated dynamically via live link.
