International Wolf Center Offers New Programs About Wolves After Delisting

The International Wolf Center is offering three new programs centered around the question, what will happen when wolves are no longer endangered? Programs are offered at the Center's flagship facility in Ely, Minnesota.

Ely, MN (PRWEB) June 22, 2006 -- The International Wolf Center has announced three additions to the wolf-focused summer program lineup at its flagship educational facility in Ely, Minnesota. Living With Wolves, Habitat Hike and Wolves and Wild Lands each focus on wolf-human coexistence now and after wolves are removed from the endangered species list.

The non-profit’s Program Director Jen Westlund pointed to the probability that wolves will be delisted in the mid-west in the next few years. She said, “It’s important for people to understand that wolves can survive without federal protection but not without wild prey and wild lands.” Habitat Hike is a family-friendly interactive walk in which visitors figure out what kind of habitat wolves need for continued survival. At Wolves and Wild Lands visitors view the Center’s Ambassador Pack of four wolves while learning about survival needs of wolves in the wild.

Living With Wolves takes visitors into wolf country to explore the problems wolves can cause humans and investigate possible solutions and prevention tactics. Westlund says participants will visit areas that have experienced wolf-human problems and get a hands-on feel for solutions.

Wolves and Wild Lands requires no advance registration and is free with the cost of admission. Habitat Hike and Living With Wolves do require advanced registration and a separate fee. Each program will only be offered through the end of August. The Center is currently open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. July 1 to August 31 hours will be extended to 7 p.m. Admission is $7.50 for adults and teens, $4 for children and $6.50 for seniors. Further information is available at www.wolf.org.
