History Auto Racing Photos on New Blog - Al Blixt, Sr. Collection Not Seen for 50 Years
A new blog features the spectacular auto racing photographs of Al Blixt, Sr. from the 1930's and 1940's that have not been seen in public for more than a half century. Blixt was a photographer, reporter and columnist for the Illustrated Speedway News, the weekly bible of the racing community in that period. The blog will publish new photos weekly.
Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) June 28, 2006 -- The auto racing photographs of Al Blixt, Sr. will be showcased on a new blog launched this week by his son. Blixt covered racing from small dirt tracks to the Indianapolis 500 for more than 20 years and photographed some of the most famous names in the sport during that period. He was the midwest editor for the Illustrated Speedway News beginning in 1938 and the official photographer of the Motor City Speedway in Detroit, Michigan for many years. Al Blixt,Sr. died in 1961 and his negatives were placed in storage until recently.
Al Blixt, Jr., 61, has undertaken the daunting task of cataloging and posting some of the thousands of images taken during his father's lifetime. He describes it as a labor of love. "I grew up at the track and I have strong memories of that time. I hope I can connect with others who will enjoy seeing dad's pictures," said Blixt. The site will add photographs three times per week and visitors will be asked to contribute their memories and stories about the people, places and events pictured in them. Blixt hopes to collect enough stories and information to publish a series of books on what many think was a golden age in racing.
