Age Concern London Joins Forces With Maxitech.biz to Bring IT Technology to London's Senior Citizens

Maxitech.biz (London UK Computer Recycling) - initiative to open up the online world for London's older people.

(PRWEB) July 3, 2006 -- London has a population of over 1.9 million people aged 50 and over who play many different roles in the capital. Age Concern London (ACL) acknowledges the enormous contribution older people make to life in the capital and works with and for older people to promote their rights and status as citizens and to build an inclusive capital for all.

ACL's key objective is to advance the interests and well-being of the capital's older population. Working together locally and regionally across the capital with key decision makers and partners plays a crucial part in striving to meet this goal. One example of this is a new initiative that aims to open up the online world to London's older citizens. ACL has joined forces with Mayor Ken Livingstone and computer recycling company Maxitech to provide refurbished computers to local older people by working with local Age Concerns. Apart from the obvious benefits of providing older people with PC's such as reducing social isolation, increasing independence and gaining IT knowledge and skills, the programme will train unemployed young people in IT and help them find work. In addition the project hopes to increase the recycling of IT equipment by London based companies and create a long term infrastructure for the collection and processing of redundant IT equipment in London.

In order for this scheme to get off the ground and become a success, Maxitech urgently require any unwanted PC's your company may not be currently using and ACL would be grateful for offers of assistant from volunteers with IT skills to help with setting-up the PC's in older peoples' homes.
