Forbes Magazine Joins Neumont University Supporters

Computer science school endorsed by Forbes, IBM, and Microsoft for innovative computer science degree.

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) July 13, 2006 – Neumont University, offering accelerated Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Master of Business Administration degrees, announced today that the July 24, 2006 issue of Forbes Magazine will include a profile of the University. In the article entitled, Software U, Forbes magazine joins technology leaders with their endorsement of the University’s breakthrough Computer Science degree program.

Neumont is addressing the industry-wide shortage of skilled software developers. “The U.S. has a big problem,” reports Forbes. “The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts it needs 135,000 new computer professionals each year….U.S. universities are churning out only 49,000 grads a year. And many of those U.S. grads require additional training before they can function on the job.”

is clearly several rungs above
In his article, Forbes writer Tim Doyle outlines how Neumont University was established to address the national shortage of software developers. Students are immersed in an intensive, first-ever project-based curriculum. Industry-accomplished faculty mentor students in small classes, and close alignment with employers is a key component of the curriculum.

Forbes magazine joins technology leaders IBM and Microsoft in its praise for the award-winning University. IBM Executive Vice President for Innovation and Technology, Nicholas M. Donofrio described Neumont’s rapid rise to success in recent testimony before the U.S. Department of Education Commission on the Future of Higher Education. At the first Neumont commencement in May Mr. Donofrio stated graduates are “correct by construction,” and “the closest people I have found anywhere in the world who actually come out [of school service ready.”

Recent Neumont grads were 100% placed in the field of software development and had multiple job offers before accepting positions before commencement*. Neumont “is clearly several rungs above” other schools that offer degrees in Computer Science, reports Forbes. ”There's no confusing Neumont with a traditional university,” says Forbes writer Tim Doyle. Neumont graduates are commanding salaries “20% more than the average computer science grad”.

The Degrees
Neumont University’s accelerated 30-month Bachelor Degree in Computer Science (BSCS) distinguishes itself with an integrated, project-based curriculum that focuses on the skills most valued by today's employers. Upon completing the instructional and project hours, Neumont University graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a portfolio of project work.

In addition to the BSCS degree, the University offers a Master of Business Administration MBA) degree with an emphasis in IT.
