ChipIn, the “social money” innovator, today announced the public release of the ChipIn event widget. This patent-pending feature enables individuals to publicize their ChipIn event on their website, blog, or personal page, helping to increase the number of event participants and funds collected.
ChipIn’s core service allows an individual to collect money from their social network easily and securely via ChipIn “events”. Event organizers simply provide ChipIn with details on the event purpose and how much is to be collected from whom by when, and ChipIn does the rest, automating the process of contacting event participants, processing contributions, and forwarding the collected funds to the intended recipient, all at no cost.
Now, with the release of the ChipIn event widget, organizers will be able to solicit for contributions and provide real-time event status directly on their web page, blog, or personal profile (such as MySpace, Friendster and Evite). Via the event widget, site visitors are provided details on the purpose of the event, how much has been collected, what percentage of the goal has been reached, and how many people have contributed, plus are provided a link so that they may contribute to the event via ChipIn.
Using the event widget is easy. After setting up an event at ChipIn, the event organizer uses the “widget wizard” to select and customize their event widget. A simple copy and paste of the widget code into their site is then all it takes to get the widget up and running.
The benefits of the event widget are clear to Kristal Armendariz, one of the beta-users of the new feature. “I used ChipIn to raise money so that my daughter Mia could participate in the National Junior Olympics,” said Kristal. “By being able to publicize my event on my blog (http://www.kristyk.org), I was able to reach out to my friends and family and the widget really is a great way to get your event noticed and get people to act. I ended up exceeding my fundraising goal and am very happy with the widget and the ChipIn service.”
"Our mission is to enable individuals to easily and securely collect money from their social network for whatever purpose they have, be it group gifting, fundraising, or even throwing a party," said ChipIn CEO Carnet Williams. "The ChipIn event widget is the first of many upcoming features and partnerships that will make gathering “social money” easier and better for all involved.”
