In the June edition of Biometric Insight we focus mainly on different ID cards schemes around the world. We look at the biometric smart card for Qatar's National ID scheme and additional articles surrounding ID cards for Afghan Refugees, Thailand, US port workers and ID cards for Filipino seaman. In a survey by Vanson Bourne on behalf of LogicaCMG, we find out that Europeans want biometrics and France is the country leading the way with 92% of respondents happy to have a finger and iris scan when travelling abroad. The June newsletter also covers two news articles about the development of biomentrically enabled technologies used by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the “US Visit” scheme and the debate that has arisen from this.
