The Job Hunt: Faxing Beats Applying Online and Mailing Resumes, Hands Down

One job hunter receives close to 100 responses to his faxed resume in just five days, lands his dream job.

Matt Mladenka didn’t think he’d have a hard time finding a new job when the organization he had worked for eliminated his Dallas-based position. After all, he had worked for Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization (now Entrepreneurs’ Organization), a global community of business owners, all of whom run companies that exceed $1M (US) in revenue, for nine years. He had contacts.

After taking a few months off, he started looking for his next job but found it much more difficult than he expected. His contacts tried to help, but he found nothing permanent. He was depressed, had gone through all of his savings to keep up with bills, and even thought about putting his house up for sale.

Then he discovered that a friend and member of YEO had recently begun a job-hunting service, http://www.JobsByFax.com, and he contacted the company immediately.

“I couldn’t believe it,” exclaimed Mladenka. “We sent the fax to over 1,000 companies on a Thursday night, and by the next day at noon, I had 15 phone calls. By the following Tuesday, I had around 35 calls, 20 responses in the mail, and 25 emails, letting me know my resume was being considered. I also received some immediate ongoing work as a subcontractor for a public relations agency. It was crazy; my phone rang constantly for a week. It worked too well! Two months later, I still get calls.”

Mladenka had two weeks of interviews set up, and he was able to choose which opportunities that he wanted to pursue. “They were coming to me, and I was talking to presidents and senior leaders, not the gatekeeper whose job is to throw your resume in the trash. It was much more productive than sitting for hours in front of a computer looking at job boards that get little to no response, and making call after call.”

Mladenka ultimately took his dream job—a full-time position as marketing and sales director with a successful Dallas entrepreneur who had recently acquired a new company, East Teak Fine Hardwoods, Inc. “It was perfect timing and this was an unlisted opportunity. Had he not received my fax, we would have never met each other,” says Mladenka. “I couldn’t be happier.”

Matt Saunders, CEO of http://www.JobsByFax.com, says Mladenka’s success is really pretty typical. “Our clients’ resumes are faxed directly to the decision makers, bypassing all the gatekeepers and avoiding the e-mail pit of despair. It’s a one-of-a-kind strategy for marketing their skills, and it works.”
