Finding Love in Unexpected Places

When Match.com Introduces the Boy Next Door

DALLAS, TX (PRWEB) July 25, 2006 -– What would you do if you found out that your soul mate lived on your street and you’d never met? It may sound like the next Keanu Reeves/Sandra Bullock movie, but it’s a reality for many couples who met online.

Recent data shows that 33 million Americans who are online are open to pursuing a relationship. That is why, according to Kristin Kelly, relationship expert at Match.com, it’s not uncommon for couples in the same city, neighborhood or even the same apartment building to meet for the first time online.

Sean and I lived in adjacent towns, worked out at the same gym, enjoyed the same activities, went to the same night spots, and a girlfriend of mine had even briefly dated Sean’s friend!
“Online dating and relationship sites expand the universe of quality people that you might not otherwise meet in your daily routine,” said Kelly. “We like to think Match.com gives fate a little nudge.”

That's exactly what happened to Kristen Wright of Clarence, New York and Sean Marks of Amherst when they met on Match.com in April 2005.

“When I saw Sean from across the room the first night we met, I literally had my breath taken away. I tapped him on the shoulder and we locked eyes for the first time. I knew right then I had met my soul mate!” said Wright.

And for the couple, it didn’t take long to realize love had been right in front of them for years though they’d never met in person.

“Sean and I lived in adjacent towns, worked out at the same gym, enjoyed the same activities, went to the same night spots, and a girlfriend of mine had even briefly dated Sean’s friend!” said Wright.

“When we found out that we frequented the same places, we were surprised we never crossed paths,” added Marks. “But I’m glad we didn’t, because it makes what we have so much more special.”

Once the wheels started turning, Marks said fate took over. He planned a surprise proposal to Wright in front of 50,000 people at the CMA Music Festival in June and the couple is now preparing for their wedding in June 2008.

In Boston, Massachusetts, Cathie and Gregg Bailey can relate.

"We lived only streets from each other in the same neighborhood of Boston, said Bailey "I can't imagine my life had we not met on Match.com.”

And for Cathie and Gregg – happily married one year this September and expecting their first child in August – online dating has changed their lives forever.

"At my baby shower, one of my older sister’s single friends said to me ‘You and Gregg are such a great pair. You are an inspiration to me – fairly tales do come true!’ It’s true. I pinch myself every day – I don’t take anything for granted,” said Bailey.
