Rock and Roll Legends 'Bill Haley's Comets' Perform this Saturday at the Annual Blue Suede Cruise at Norwalk Raceway Park

Norwalk Raceway Park's fifth annual Blue Suede Cruise, expected to draw more than 2000 classic cars, features a classic rock 'n' roll concert with Bill Haley's Comets as the headline act Saturday, July 29.

Norwalk, OH (PRWEB) July 26, 2006 -- Get out your poodle skirts, or splash a little grease in your hair and get ready this Saturday, July 29 at the fifth annual Blue Suede Cruise at Norwalk Raceway Park. A classic rock ’n’ roll concert starts at 7:00 pm headlined by Bill Haley’s Comets. Bill Haley and the Comets made history in the 1950’s with songs such as “Rock Around the Clock,” “Shake, Rattle, and Roll,” and “See You Later Alligator” in the golden age of rock ’n’ roll.

Also performing at Norwalk Raceway’s show will be Tommy Vale and the Torpedoes, and The Coasters. Complete information is available at http://www.NorwalkRaceway.com.

The PPG Blue Suede Cruise presented by Cruisin' Times magazine, Ohio's largest cruise-in, welcomes over 2,000 classic cars to the grounds of Norwalk Raceway Park for a three-day celebration that transforms the drag racing venue into a 1950’s style sock hop, complete with employees decked out in bobby socks and blue jeans.

Bill Haley and the Comets are considered pioneers in the rock and roll music era. In 1953, Bill Haley wrote "Crazy Man Crazy." The song became the first rock and roll record to make the Billboard pop chart reaching the Top 20.

Haley’s next song, “Rock Around the Clock” introduced rock ’n’ roll to America. Originally recorded by Sunny Dae in 1952, “Rock Around the Clock” had sales topping 75,000. “Rock Around the Clock” was a modest hit, until the song was used as the title track of “The Blackboard Jungle,” a movie about juvenile delinquents, twelve months later.

His next record, “Shake, Rattle and Roll” was a top ten hit. It was the first rock ’n’ roll record to sell a million copies. With that record, Bill Haley and the Comets were off and running. Their next hit, “See You Later, Alligator” sold a million copies in one month.

The PPG Blue Suede Cruise presented by Cruisin' Times magazine will begin this Friday, July 28 at 8 a.m. The Saturday night rock ’n’ roll show begins at 7 p.m., and will include a neon parade of lights, a hot rod flamethrowing contest, and a family fireworks show. Saturday tickets are $15 for adults, kids ages six to twelve are $5, and kids five and under are free. There is no extra charge for the concert. Admission tickets are good for all day, anywhere on the park. For more information, see http://www.NorwalkRaceway.com or call Norwalk Raceway at (419) 668-5555.

Norwalk Raceway is located just minutes south of Exit 118 (U.S. 250) off Interstate 80, at the intersections of State Routes 18 and 601.
