Lexington, KY (PRWEB) July 27, 2006
All around the world athletes are training, conditioning and studying each other's moves in preparation for a very unique sports competition: the Kentucky State Table Soccer Championships. To be held August 3-6 at the Holiday Inn North at 1950 Newtown Pike in Lexington, this event is expected to draw over 400 table soccer (a.k.a. "foosball") players, including numerous World Champions, European Champions, and members of the U.S. National Team. The tournament will include categories for men, women and children from beginner to Master, and will additionally feature the “foosball” events of the Blue Grass Summer Games.
Now recognized as an International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) Master Series event, the annual Kentucky tournament has even been elevated to international tour status. This means the competition is likely to draw match ups between top American players such as defending champion and USA #1-ranked Billy Pappas, 21, of Lowell, MA and other U.S. Team members against National Team members from Canada, Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom and more. Players at the Master levels will compete not only for cash and prizes at the event, but also for qualifying points to compete at the ITSF World Series Masters Championships in St. Vincent, Italy this coming November. With many top Masters playing exceptionally strong after the recent ITSF World Cup of Table Soccer held in Hamburg, Germany, matches are expected to be extremely intense.
The tournament is organized by Kentucky’s own Independent Foosball Promotions and sanctioned by both the United States Table Soccer Federation and ITSF. It is open to all spectators and there is no admission fee to enter the tournament room. Opening events begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3rd, with most finals occurring on Sunday the 6th. The Blue Grass State Games events are on Saturday the 5th and include 17 & under Singles, 12 & under Singles, Parent/Child Doubles, and more. You must be pre-registered for the Blue Grass Games (see: http://www.bgsg.org), but for IFP events players can register on site. All competition will be on Brunswick’s Tornado Table Soccer™ tables, and tables will be set on free play.
Sponsors of the event include Little Caesars, Rent Way, Budweiser, Coca Cola, and the Lexington Holiday Inn North, while sponsors of the U.S. National Foosball Team are Nike™, Brunswick’s Tornado Table Soccer™, Bonzini™ USA, Tornello Enterprises, Foosball.com, Rod-lock.com and TTR MasterWraps.
Other ITSF 2006 World Tour events are scheduled for Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, United States (Minnesota, Nevada, Texas), the UK and more. In fact, this year’s tour will be the largest worldwide table soccer pro tour ever.
