Artist Jennifer L. Bunt is proud to introduce the Magic Dog Studio line of handcrafted, custom-made jewelry and home décor. Bunt -- a Cleveland native and graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art -- captures the magic of childhood as well as the joy of friendship in her sterling silver and copper pieces. Highlights from the collection include The Family Necklace and Prints in Metal, both of which are available at the online home to Magic Dog Studio, http://www.magicdogstudio.com.
Bunt’s whimsical Family Necklace is an exciting alternative to the generic gemstones and stock symbols today’s mass marketed jewelry uses to represent family. The Magic Dog method literally transforms a child’s own creativity into sterling silver (see postcard). The thrill a child experiences when he or she sees their drawings of family and self re-created into jewelry is matched only by the proud parents, who now have an extremely personalized family keepsake to be cherished.
The Magic Dog line also features the hand-crafted Prints in Metal series -- an attractive alternative to the familiar ‘hands in plaster’ technique. Wall piece or pendant, each print in metal contains a duplicate image of a child’s hand or foot print (actual size or reduced) etched into metal. The remarkable tactile quality of the etching allows parents to ‘see’ and ‘feel’ the tiny prints of their children. Bunt’s Prints in Metal wall pieces can also be used to record a child’s first steps and growth or to symbolize the union of two individuals. And, with a name like Magic Dog, you can be sure that even the family pet can be immortalized.

About the Artist: Artist Jennifer L. Bunt has always believed in celebrating her children and their indivdualities. She also believed that recording the memories of her family was going to be anything but ‘ordinary’. Not satisfied with plaster solutions, she used her skills as a metalsmith to create copper wall pieces of her children’s hand and foot prints. However, it was her passion for jewelry that led her to reducing the prints to fit a 2” sterling silver oval. (“I really liked the idea of the mini print, because parents could then carry a personal talisman in the form of a pendant or keychain.”)
Her idea for the one-of-a-kind Magic Dog Studio Family Necklace stemmed from the days when her young daughter would accompany her to the CIA studios and draw -- art that Bunt began to turn into jewelry. When her youngest daughter created a rendition of the entire family, Bunt knew it would be the perfect Family Necklace. (“laughing…Despite the fact that she drew me as a bald potato, I made it, because this was a piece of jewelry that reflected our family, as well as my daughter’s creative spirit.”) The necklace became the fullfillment of Bunt’s desire to be extaordinary -- rather than just ordinary -- when it came to her family’s memories. With Magic Dog Studios’ exciting new line, parents everywhere now have the same opportunity. (“Everywhere I go people remark on the beautiful neck piece that I am wearing. When I tell then that it is my family as seen through the eyes of my youngest daughter, they love it even more.”)
