(PRWEB) August 1, 2006 -- LearnShare, the consortium of Fortune 1000 companies organized to research, design, purchase, package and share best practices in the training and development field, today announced it has upgraded to ensure the LearnShare LMS has adopted the standards of SCORM 2004. LearnShare has worked to implement and ensure top functionality within the LearnShare LMS, as defined by the governing commissioners at the Advanced Distributed Learning Network. LearnShare has also long been in good standing of the standards of the Aviation Industry CBT (Computer-Based Training) Committee (AICC).

SCORM, the Sharable Content Object Reference Model, was initiated in 1999 as a way to facilitate the integration and interoperability of web-based learning content, LMSs, and other technology components. The model has evolved and the most recent version, SCORM 2004, is a collection of standards and specifications adapted from multiple sources to provide a comprehensive suite of e-learning capabilities that enable interoperability, accessibility and reusability of Web-based learning content.

“The LearnShare LMS was built for, with input from, our membership,” said Lois Webster, CEO of LearnShare. “As we continue to serve their growing needs and requirements, it is imperative that the LearnShare LMS exceed the highest standards, expand to meet their ever-evolving initiatives, and be able to seamlessly integrate with their other vendors’ solutions.”

The upgrade applies to the LearnShare LMS, the customizable system designed for mid- to large-sized companies, LearnPak, the LMS-in-a-box system introduced last year to be an economical alternative for small- to mid-sized companies, and the recently introduced Customer-Facing LMS, a portal for the training of companies’ business customers that represents or sells their products. Each of these solutions serve as an online learning environment that empowers the management, delivery and tracking of blended learning for employees, stakeholders and customers, plus provides the ability to monitor and quantify the overall cost and impact of education and training. The LearnShare LMS provides key performance and administrative functions. Some examples include:

  • Enrollment and registration management for instructor-led training, CBT, WBT, and printed materials, as well as synchronous and asynchronous training.

  • E-mail program that provides information and notification of the status of an individual’s learning events and training history.

  • Course catalog that can accommodate all delivery methods with advanced search capabilities.

  • Comprehensive catalog of existing pay-per-use content.

  • System interoperability that supports content creation in most programs and offers multi-media delivery.

  • Comprehensive reporting including user’s learning history and results.

  • Tools for creating and deploying surveys, evaluations and assessments.

  • Security and permission profile settings and password management for different accessibility.

  • A simple-to-use authoring and assessment tool.

  • An open architecture that supports learning standards.

  • Individual development planning

  • Curricula development and maintenance
