Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) August 3, 2006 -- America’s Motorsports Authority announces “This Week In Motorsports,” a weekly newsfeed of the top stories from National Speed Sport News released every Wednesday. To receive this newsfeed directly for your website, contact Jim Savas, Publisher, by e-mail or at (704) 455-2531. Cleaning House: Changes continued at Robert Yates Racing. Already with a pair of lame duck drivers (Elliott Sadler, Dale Jarrett) for its NASCAR Nextel Cup Series team, crew chiefs Tommy Baldwin and Richard Labbe are no longer with the company. Cully Barraclough and Butch Hilton have been named interim crew chiefs for the near future. Baldwin has already joined Bill Davis Racing as technical director.

Moving Up: Expect former NASCAR West driver David Gilliland to be named later this week to fill one of the open seats at Robert Yates Racing next season. The announcement will come during Allstate 400 week at the Brickyard.

Sweepers: Defending USAC National Midget Car Series champion Josh Wise swept the Mopar Belleville Midget Nationals last weekend, one of midget racing’s most prestigious events. Meanwhile, Daryn Pittman swept the two-night World of Outlaws sprint-car event at Princeton, Minn.

New Venue: The Grand American Road Racing Association will compete on the 1.3-mile road course at the new Iowa Speedway next July 13-14.

Title Race: The Formula One World Driving Championship is often clinched by the first week in August, but this year it’s shaping up to be a fine battle. On the strength of three-straight victories, seven-time champion Michael Schumacher has closed to within 11 points of defending title winner Fernando Alonso, who dominated the early portion of the season.

New Power: The Williams Formula 1 team has completed a deal for the team to run Toyota V-8 engines for the next three seasons.

New Events: The Indy Racing League is considering several new events. First and foremost would be a date on the new seven-eighths-mile oval at Iowa Speedway. Some of the series’s teams will test at the Newton, Iowa, track this week. Secondly, team-owner Roger Penske has submitted a proposal to IRL President that would bring racing back to Detroit’s Belle Isle, which once hosted Champ Car World Series events.

Unveiled: The Champ Car World Series unveiled what it is billing as The Future of Racing, the new Panoz DP-01 chassis, which will become the spec car of the open-wheel series beginning next season. A rolling chassis with gearbox is said to sell for $295,000, which is a dramatic reduction from the $450,000 price tag for the Lola currently being utilized in the series.

Still the Man: World of Outlaws Sprint Series point-leader Donny Schatz retained the top spot in the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings.
