Redesigned 'Conversations about Plant Biotechnology' Web Site Improves Speed and Ease of Viewing Videos Online

Visitors can view farmers and experts discussing the benefits of GM crops.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) August 2, 2006 -- This week, Conversations about Plant Biotechnology launched its redesigned Web site, utilizing an architecture and cutting-edge tools that simplify online video viewing and improve visitor access to the more than 40 videos currently available on the site.

The new design showcases two- to three-minute, straightforward, compelling video segments with the people who know genetically modified (GM) crops best – the farmers and families who grow GM crops and the experts who research and study the technology.

Visitors can now access these videos about the benefits of GM crops in one of three ways:

  • Through the Video Gallery – This online video player allows visitors to quickly browse and select from all of the videos available on the site. Multiple videos can be easily viewed in one visit. Links to favorite videos can be sent to friends. And, the most compelling videos about GM crops can be downloaded for future viewing in vehicles such as PowerPoint presentations.

  • Through “traditional Web pages” – A single video is embedded in a typical Web page that also provides visitors with a biographical sketch of the individual, the video transcript, and a related article. Videos are grouped in one of three categories – Farmers , Experts and Topics. Using the printer-friendly feature, visitors to these pages can print a reference or handout containing all of the information relevant to any video segment.

  • Through subscription to an RSS or Podcast feed – Using iTunes, a separate RSS reader application, an RSS-aware browser, or a web-based RSS aggregator, subscribers automatically receive information and links to video segments as new content is added. Instructions are provided to help even a novice user subscribe to the RSS feed.

In addition to improving the speed and ease of viewing videos online, the new design provides visitors with easy-to-follow navigation and a clear visual hierarchy, utilizing breadcrumbs on every page. Links to related stories were added to help users navigate between video segments. A new search feature was added to help visitors choose video segments by specific topics or terms. And, as always, visitors can sign-up to receive an email bulletin when new video content about GM crops is added to the site.

The Conversations about Plant Biotechnology Web site is hosted by Monsanto Company – a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality.
