Fall Travel in Virginia Just Got Easier

Virginia's 15.8 million acres of foliage, 2,500 miles of scenic byways, and 100 fall festivals make the state the ultimate fall destination. Virginia is for Lovers today launched the fall web site to make trip planning even easier.

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) August 10, 2006 –- What makes Virginia a great destination for fall? How about 15.8 million acres of trees just waiting to show off their colors? All that foliage, combined with over 2,500 miles of scenic byways and more than 100 festivals and events, makes a trip to Virginia better than anything you were planning to do this fall.

To help people plan their ultimate fall experience, Virginia is for Lovers today launched www.FallInVirginia.org, a Web site pulsing with fall festivals, weekly foliage updates and weekend getaway ideas.

New to Virginia’s fall site and www.Virginia.org, the state’s main travel site, is the What’s Nearby mapping feature. Whether visitors are looking to pick their own pumpkin at the Chesterfield Berry Farm or take in Oktoberfest at AmRhein Wine Cellars, the Web site will highlight lodging, dining and attractions near by. Visitors can also create detailed driving directions and determine exact mileage between points.

For those hoping to catch Virginia’s brilliant fall colors, www.FallInVirginia.org will feature weekly foliage reports starting in October, when the leaves will be changing. For some people, seeing is believing. Check out Virginia’s fall site for weekly photos of actual fall foliage from around the state before hitting the road.

For visitors looking for another type of color – specifically a nice burgundy, blush or white – Virginia’s growing wine industry provides an explosion of color and taste. With more than 100 wineries, the commonwealth has designated October as Wine Month. From Virginia’s Eastern Shore to its Appalachian mountains, fall is the perfect time to sample wineries’ award-winning vintages, music, food and special events including the Virginia Wine Festival, the oldest wine festival on the East Coast.

Family fun gets top billing on Virginia’s fall site, with links to farms, festivals and events for families to pick pumpkins, apples, berries and more. Hayrides and corn mazes such as Corn Acoustics, a bluegrass-themed corn maze in Patrick County featuring music from Virginia’s Crooked Road, abound throughout Virginia. Families can go online to find their favorite festival and play the pumpkin art game to practice their design before getting to the real thing. The site also features free, downloadable coloring pages to help keep the kids entertained on the trip to Virginia.

Virginia offers affordable scenic getaways to enjoy the best things that fall has to offer. Go to www.FallInVirginia.org or call 1-800-932-5827 and ask for a free travel guide and Virginia Scenic Byways Map to start planning your ultimate fall visit to Virginia.
