New Anti-Spyware Weapon Combats Spyware Epidemic

A new anti-spyware weapon called Custom Fix is enabling programmers to protect against computer spyware infections.

(PRWEB) August 14, 2006 -- A new Custom Fix function built into a very powerful anti-spyware program called SpyNoMore is enabling programmers to protect against computer spyware infections. With new spyware programs popping up every day, the spyware epidemic has continued to outpace programmers’ attempts to stay ahead of computer infections. With the release of this new (patent pending) anti-spyware weapon called Custom Fix, programmers are now staying ahead of inbound computer threats. Custom Fix is considered a breakthrough in the fight against spyware in that it enables live technical support personnel to remotely examine an infected computer then issue a fix to remove that specific infection.

In addition to Custom Fix, SpyNoMore is loaded with features that enable it to protect end users. Features include:

  • Active Protection stops spyware from sneaking up onto your computer
  • Host Blocking blocks known spyware-spawning websites so you can safely surf the net
  • Vaccination inoculates your system against inbound threats
  • A Huge detection database which covers over 90,000 known spyware products

"Highly paid spyware programmers are showing up to work every day, generating new and more sophisticated spyware programs," said Stewart Sullivan, head of R & D, IllySoft LLC. "Anti-spyware programs simply cannot keep up, mainly because anti-spyware vendors rely on catching existing spyware, analyzing them, then issuing a cure via live updates to end users. By the time the end users receive the cure, the existing spyware has been updated by the spyware makers, rendering the cure useless."

The Custom Fix feature allows users to upload a system report, to be reviewed by highly qualified technical personnel, who in turn issue back a fix to cure the problem. The fix removes the spyware program before it has a chance to mutate
"The Custom Fix feature allows users to upload a system report, to be reviewed by highly qualified technical personnel, who in turn issue back a fix to cure the problem. The fix removes the spyware program before it has a chance to mutate," Sullivan said. "Unlike blind database comparison (the technique used by traditional anti-spyware and anti-virus programs), technical support personnel are able to spot these random files and prepare a 'fix' to successfully remove them. The fix is then dispatched to the user to remove the spyware program before it has a chance to mutate."

According to Sullivan, PC users recently experienced a spike in a trojan called the Zlob Trojan. Sullivan explains, "Zlob Trojan infects a computer and starts bombarding the user with pop-ups, some of which blatantly announce to the user that their PC is infected, then propose a rogue anti-spyware product to clean it up. Among the rogue products promoted by Zlob are: Spy Heal, Malware Wipe, Pest Trap, Brave Sentry and others. Needless to say, Zlob and the proposed anti-spyware products are closely affiliated, if not one and the same!"

"Zlob is very smart and can easily outwit most anti-spyware and anti-virus products out there. We are receiving hundreds of reports with Zlob infections, and this pest really knows how to hide itself" Sullivan added. "Users were adding statements to their Custom Fix reports such as: 'I ran Norton Anti-virus, and it did nothing to remove this pest.' Custom Fix enabled our technical support team to remove each and every one of those infections and to create new smart rules to add to SpyNoMore’s extensive database to enable it to detect Zlob."

SpyNoMore yearly subscription covers up to 3 PC’s -- to protect your desktop, laptop and a have a third license to give away (spouse, sibling, co-worker) -- and sells for $39.95. SpyNoMore can be downloaded from http://www.spynomore.com.
