2006 Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship Recipients Announced

The 2006 recipients of the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship, the nation's only college scholarship program for skateboarders, have been announced.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) August 12, 2006 -- The 2006 recipients of the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship, the nation's only college scholarship program for skateboarders, have been selected. The scholarships are awarded to students who have been activists for skateboarding in their communities.

$5000 scholarship to Aaron Eisenberg presented by Activision/TonyHawk's Underground. He will attend Sierra College and UC Berkeley. At age 13, Aaron became a certified broadcast engineer and created the first radio show in the world entirely dedicated to skateboarding, called Skateboarder’s Paradise. He is the host and producer. On the air for five years, his show can be heard on KVMR FM and on the web at kvmr.org/programs/skate. As a Visalia YMCA Skateboard Camp volunteer, Aaron helped direct and produce skate films. He organized a benefit concert for his local skatepark. Aaron is an honor student and his high school Valedictorian.    

$1000 scholarship to Joshua Fangman presented by Jones Soda. He will attend the University of Wisconsin. Josh has been involved in all aspects of planning, fundraising, design, and maintenance for the Ashland Bay Area Skatepark. As a member of the Operations Committee, Josh developed and teaches the Beginner/Intermediate course. Josh graduated first in his class and was his high school Valedictorian.    

$1000 scholarship to Clayton Wurtele presented by The Tony Hawk Foundation. He will attend Dana College and major in Pre-Law/Criminal Justice. Clayton is the President of the Nebraska City Skatepark Committee. He created petitions, held fundraisers and wrote grants for skatepark funding. Clayton graduated first in his class.    

$1000 scholarship to Mark Miller presented by Mountain Dew. Mark will attend California State University and major in Research Psychology. Since the 6th grade, Mark has been a key member of MASE (Monroe Area Skating Enthusiasts) and involved in all aspects of design, fundraising, and creation of a video presentation to City Council. Mark’s Eagle Scout project was the creation of a bench for the skatepark. He is a member of the National Honor Society.    

$1000 scholarship to Sam Davidson presented by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC). As an eighth grader, Sam initiated a campaign for a public skatepark in Athens, GA. After four years of lobbying, fundraising and design, the Skate Park of Athens was completed. Sam and his fellow skaters raised $17,000 for Hurricane Katrina victims.    

$1000 scholarship to Josh Belotti presented by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC). Josh lobbied for a public skatepark in Marathon, Fl and was active in all aspects of fundraising and design. He gives skateboarding lessons at the new park. He will study Marine Biology.    

$1000 scholarship to Charlie Mrusko presented by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC). Charlie has been a lobbyist for public skateparks, has helped design and build ramps, helps organize and judge skate contests, gives skateboarding lessons to beginners, and held skate-jam fundraisers for the American Red Cross. He will major in Secondary Education (Chemistry).
