Jamie Gold Dominates World Championship, Walks Away With $12 Million
L.A. television producer Jamie Gold managed the seemingly impossible task of beating more than 8,700 players to win the 2006 WSOP Championship event in the early hours of August 11, 2006, and PokerListings.com, the world’s biggest and most extensive poker resource, was there to cover it from the first hand. Jamie claimed the most sought after title in poker after just 20 minutes of heads-up play, a feat he said is dedicated to his ailing father who is suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He intends to use part of his winnings to provide for his father during the last days of his life.
Jamie entered the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event as a member of the Bodog.com celebrity team. A relentless force at the tables throughout the event, Gold left his fellow celebrities in the dust as he surpassed player after player to make it to the final table. He dominated the last four days of play, continuously increasing his chip stack at the expense of several, more seasoned players, including Allen Cunningham, and eventually went on to knock out seven of his eight final table competitors.
