She Opened a Shop with Nothing but Bipolar T-Shirts and Other Bipolar Products in it Because She is Tired of the Stereotyping and the Stigma
Bipolars shouldn't have to hide and there's no reason for anyone to fear or wonder about Bipolars. The t-shirts tell the story. Like it or not, she's going to keep designing them.
Yucca Valley, CA (PRWEB) August 13, 2006 -- Bipolar Disorder is scary from a patient’s point of view. It affects moods. And unfortunately moods affect everything else: the way you think, the way you perceive things, the way you react, and that's just the beginning. Then there's the other side; the way people act when they find out someone has it. Most people don't know the first thing about Bipolar Disorder so they follow the stereotypical "what they see on the news" idea of what it is. How do you combat that?
Cris Jackman of Crazy Crissy's Bipolar T-Shirts is working to help educate the public by putting Bipolar facts on t-shirts. She's also helping those with the disorder express themselves with sayings so they can say how they feel without having to say it; which is a problem for a lot of Bipolars. She brings the realities to the forefront and adds a little humor to a much too serious Bipolar world via t-shirts.
She's a bit of a radical and believes it's time for change. "Those with the disorder have nothing to be ashamed of. It's an organic disorder like any other disorder. We're not mentally deficient or warped. If you meet us on the street you'd never know we have Bipolar Disorder". Her t-shirts tell the story. She has one that says "Normal is a setting on a washing machine", that's how she feels about normal.
She's breaking new ground with Crazy Crissy's Bipolar T-Shirts. If there are others, there aren't many shops devoted exclusively to those with Bipolar Disorder. She has her followers and her dissidents but she's on a mission. "We're not monsters. I hear people talk about kidney infections but its taboo for me to say I'm feeling a bit manic". Where is the equality in that? The disorder isn't who I am but it's a part of my life. That's a good line for a t-shirt”. Time will tell if her t-shirts will ever be accepted by the Bipolar community. I don’t think it matters to Cris, she’s going to keep fighting the battle until she wins.
